Okay - the day is fast approaching. Here is the deal:
Meeting at the McDonalds on the Bee-line and Shea in Fountain Hills at 7:30AM - then load up and head for the trailhead.
The probable hike is as Mike said in an earlier post:
Quote: |
As for the hike, I would say, we play it by ear. If the falls are flowing as well as I suspect, we may be spending a lot of time checking them out on the way in. I'd like to go back as far as Chilson Camp, and return by the same route, which is about 12.5 miles round-trip. |
Anyone that is planning on going, post here so we know to wait for you at the McDonalds.
I'm looking forward to this one. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I'm in, will we need 4wd or how are we riding to the trailhead? _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

I'm in.
I was there about this time last year in a heavy rain. My S-10 was Sliding all over the road but did not need four wheel drive. The road was mostly washboard and the only deep mud was near the trail head and on the shoulders. I don't know how often they grade it. _________________ ;o)> |

With the rain we've had, and possible snow in that area, we will likely need at least high clearance. Later this week, it would be a good idea to check with the Payson Ranger District Office to get an update on the road condition, as well as an idea of how much snow to expect.
I'm in at this point, however today I have a cold or some sort of bug, so if it gets any worse between now and the end of the week, I may have to back out. _________________ |

Looks like we'll have a good size group! It's gonna be a great hike! _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

Can we make the meet at Bee-line and Shea 7:30 instead of 7:00? I'm picking up Dennis, GTG and probably Stan and that extra half hour getting from Way out here would really help. _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

I agree with 7:30. Your original idea was to meet in Mesa at 7:00. Meeting in Fountain Hills at 7:30 wouldn't throw your time off by more than a few minutes.
Hooli, if Mrs Mike decides not to go, would you have room for one more in you macho manly jeep?? _________________ |

Yeah, Yeah.....suck up....and as soon as I agree to give you a ride you'll go back to calling it "Your Cute Jeep"
OK, I think I can fit three in the back seat; or you may have to sit on GTG's lap _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

There could be a problem - I don't think my little Escort will make it if we require high clearance vehicles.
Possibly Stan would be so kind as to bring his truck and let me ride with him? Not sure I want to sit on GTG's, Mike's or Dennis' lap. You're nice guys and all but.....
Not to mention the fact that it would be a bunch of guys sitting on each other's lap in a "cute" jeep! The horror..... _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

If I could get CactusCat, Jaimi, Paintninaz, Valet2 & Mrs. Mike to ride in the Jeep, there wouldn't be any "guys" ridin' in the "Cute Jeep" at all! 'cept me, of course _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Check with Stan. I invited him to ride in the Jeep, but haven't had a reply yet. If not Stan, there are probably some other high clearance cars going? _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero
