LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale rattled northern California, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, seismologists said.
The temblor, which shook the popular tourist resort area around Lake Tahoe at 11:45 am (1845 GMT), was the sixth significant quake to hit California in two weeks.
The shaker struck 19 kilometers (12 miles) north-northeast of Tahoe City and about 32 kilometers (20 miles) southwest of the Nevada gambling city of Reno, the US Geological Survey said.
A spate of quakes, including a 7.0 magnitude temblor earlier this month has made residents of the Golden State extremely jumpy and raised fears among many that the "big one" could be on its way. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

That possibility is seeming more likely lately, what with the two volcanos in Mexico acting up, and I heard something about an underwater one out in the Pacific getting more active too, though I am not as sure about that. I don't know, but 6 quakes and two volcano sounds like some significant geologic activity to me _________________ -Dylan Anderson

I"m told the hospitals here train for massive medical air evac from California scenarios. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |
