I just came in the Apache Trail and it looks like a pretty substantial fire on the Peralta side of Weavers Needle. I'm trying to find out if FS is aware... |

Oh no, I hope they get to it... kinda makes me not like the rainy season we had. Sad to think all that beautiful growth this spring is now going up in flames... _________________ And this our life, exempt from public haunt,

Fox 10 just reported a fire has broken out on Mummy Mountain. No evacuations yet, crews are on the way to the scene. I drive right by Mummy everyday on the way to and from work. _________________ [/size] |

A lightning strike near several large homes on Mummy Mountain in Phoenix tonight has Phoenix and Paradise Valley fire crews working to contain the blaze.
It is unknown how many acres the fire consumed, but Phoenix Assistant Fire Chief Bob Khan said the blaze "was growing." The fire is in the area of 56th Street and Mockingbird Lane.
About 30 Phoenix firefighters are working with Rural/Metro authorities to keep the blaze from reaching homes.
Fire and police officials planned to launch a public-education effort during the July 4 weekend in Paradise Valley, in which officials would knock on doors to warn residents about potential fire dangers. Officials planned the program in response to the current Cave Creek Complex fire.
No evacuations of the area are scheduled at this time, Khan said. |

Any more info on the possible fire in the supes? I keep praying everyday that the supes are spared. If something started out there it would get out of control really fast. _________________

This is from the article I posted earlier on the topic about the Cave Creek fire:
azcentral.com wrote: |
By late Thursday, new fires were burning on Mummy Mountain in Paradise Valley, the Superstition Mountains in the East Valley, Four Peaks northeast of Fountain Hills, in Prescott, and in Payson.
Some, like the 200-acre fire in the Superstitions and the 1,000-acre Four Peaks fire, were burning unabated with no crews available to fight them, said Vinnie Picard, a spokesman for the Tonto National Forest.
"We just can't get them all," Picard said. "We can't throw everything at every fire. We just don't have the resources." |

Unbelievable what's happening! It feels like 1/2 of AZ is on fire.
We may just need a emoticon of fire to add to the visual here, it's been the main topic for a while and doesn't seem to be letting up at all.
Someone do a rain (with no lightening) dance quick!!!

before you read this I'd like to point out that it is said (typed) with the desperate hope of maintaining an optimistic outlook on life and trying to take somthing good out of all this.
That being said;
At least if everything burns this year, there won't be as many fires next year...

OH YES, that's the bright or is it not-so-bright (minus the glare of the fires) side of this!
Good way to look at it but in the mean time, let's continue to pray that all that is lost in the fire is the dry brush and no homes, people and animals.
Nice thought, Matt, as usual.

We have to try and remember that these fires have been happening for as long as the earth has been around. It has only become relivent to us since we all moved to this wonderful state.... God made it this wonderful to begin with... I am sure he has a way of maintaining that beauty despite us....
I fully understand your intent in that statment Matt! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

I agree, fire is a natural process, and this old earth got along just fine for a loooong time before we showed up. And will continue long after we're gone.....
However, it's still not good to toss your cigarette butts out the window.. _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |
