Okay - it's official. March 22nd we will be doing Barnhardt's trail.

Mike - if you would be so kind as to post a breif description of the route you are suggesting (distance, time, what to expect, etc.).

I would like to get an early start on this one if possible. Say - meeting somewhere in the east valley at 7:00AM - then we head for the hills.

Any takers, please let us know if we should expect you.

For the meeting location, I suggest the McDonalds on the NE corner of Country Club and McKelleps - easy access to the Beeline from there and right off the 202 - plus a really lousy breakfast menu. How can you go wrong there? I am, however, open to other suggestions.

This is fine for the East Valley people, but for those of us who live in the north valley, it's very much out of the way. How about Fountain Hills, at the Beeline and Shea. There's a McDonald's there, as well, I believe.

I'll post hike details tonight.

I'd like to go. Barnhardt has been on my list for awhile, now. But, I'll be hitting the high peaks of Florida the last week of March.

Actually, I will be visiting my folks down there.

You guys have a good time on the trail.

Alright, then it's the McDonald's on Shea just west of the Beeline in Fountain Hills. How does 7:30 am sound?

As for the hike, I would say, we play it by ear. If the falls are flowing as well as I suspect, we may be spending a lot of time checking them out on the way in. I'd like to go back as far as Chilson Camp, and return by the same route, which is about 12.5 miles round-trip. Other options are available, but may be prohibitive due to distance or snow cover in the higher elevations. One option would be to take the Barnhardt to the junction with the Divide Trail, then head north to the Sandy Springs Trail and take that back to it's junction with Barnhardt. (Trust me... you don't want to do that in the opposite direction! Been there, done that, bought the tshirt! Yes ) But, there could be more snow on that side of the divide, makng the trail difficult to follow.

What to expect... views, waterfalls, views and, oh yeah, there is one waterfall in there that is worth the whole trip!

With today's rain, the road may be 4x4, and we could be post holing it in snow...

Thats the one and it isn't all that far up the trail either. There will be a deep canyon off to the right as you hike up that will be flowing heavily too, it is really cool.

Yes, I saw them and yes, that's the waterfall. The pictures really don't do it justice though, you have to see this spot to believe it!
