I am looking to buy a case of 1000 5 X 7 inch, polyethelene bags for use for storing my camping food on trips and other regular food as well.
[center:9ad6d2697d][/center:9ad6d2697d]
The case costs $16.00 and I'm pretty sure I can skip shipping since I know the person. - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=83893&item=8188079548&rd=1

1. Am I making a mistake by using poly bags for food storage?

2. If poly is okay does anyone want in on the case with me?

3. If we get lots of takers, I'm sure he has cases of these things.

Thanks,
GTG

If you pick up the case, and we can see what kind of quality they are, I'll grab some from you.

I'd hate for a bag to come apart inside my pack.

They're 2 mil thick which is between a standard baggie (1.3 mil) and a freezer baggie (3 mil). That sounds plenty tough enough, the edges are what worries me. I'll see if I can go by his shop and see one out of the case. I'm sure the case is full of individual boxes of 100 or so. If that's the case, I'll split it up.

Let's try this out -
Shush you!

I am trying to find the difference between food grade poly and standard poly. I think there is no difference, all plastic is bad.
I asked the seller and this is what has transpired;

Quote:

Dear auctionmonkey,

GTG - Do you have one of these bags out for inspection? If so, could I come to the store and chack one out? My group from my hiking site would be interested in purchasing some with me. Thanks, Todd Gartman

Auctionmonkey - Not a problem Todd. Let me know, we have cases of them. I am selling these for a friend.

GTG - do you have any idea if they can be used for food? I’m trying to find out the difference between regular and food grade poly.

Auctionmonkey - I have no idea Todd. I did a quick search and couldn't come up with anything. These are made of polyethylene. My thoughts are if they are harmful, they would only cause small tumors. These are small bags.

Well my search goes on, I'll get to the bottom of this yet.

If they turn out to be good for food, I'll go in with you. You said you were getting a case of 1000 for 16 bucks? So I figure I don't need more than 250, that would be 4 bucks right? I'd even be willing to go up to five dollars, you know, finders fee and what-not.

LOL Laughing Laughing all I could think of was some serious shopper looking at the cut on a diamond at the mall with a magnifying glass, or better yet, someone noticing YOU going over the baggies with a fine tooth comb and thinking 'gee this guy is strange, what is he going to use those for...spare body parts or something?'
