As I was driving home tonight, I saw a mountain that I dont normally see. I was admiring the beautiful snow on Four Peaks, and noticed another snow-covered mountain a bit further north of the Peaks, and like, northeast of the McDowells. Anyone know what mountain that might be?? I was just curious. _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

Could be Pine Mtn, you were looking at, elevation 5236.
But as you know I don't know much.
In any case good to see you back on here. _________________ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. |

I was heading east on McDowell, and the mountain more or less split the horizon to my northeast... Like behind the McDowells to the east, and to the left or north of Four Peaks. Kinda tough to explain, I guess, but it is a fairly big mountain and covered w/ snow. I just like to know what I am looking at, so I thought I would throw it out there, and see if anyone knew. Thanks guys. _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

We were driving up 56th Street north of the 101 late yesterday afternoon, going to Desert Ridge Marketplace. We could see a peak just to the left of Pinnacle Peak, but much further north. It was snow covered. It could've been the same peak you saw, just from a different angle. My guess would be it's either Ord or Peeley. On a good clear day, you can see the higher peaks in the Mazatzals from parts of the Valley. _________________ [/size] |

jmzblond,
Is it possible that you were looking at Aztec Peak in the Sierra Anchas? They border the Northeast side of Lake Roosevelt and the peak is at 7748 feet. Aztec Peak is about fifty miles to the NE.

My bet is on Mt. Ord as it usually is viewable from the NE Scottsdale area. |

There's only one way to resolve this: road trip!
After looking at Topo!, I think Mt. Ord is the logical choice. It's in the right position and should have plenty of snow. _________________ Steve |

We drove up the Bee Line yesterday and Mt Ord was covered with snow. Another tell-tale: If you've got powerful binoculars look at the summit. Mt Ord has a Forest Service lookout tower and microwave towers at the top.
If memory serves me correctly the forest road (FR626) will take you all the way to the summit (or close enough to walk to the lookout).

I was hiking Lookout Mountain yesterday and saw them mountains. I have noticed them before, but they were increadibly beautiful covered in snow. I figured they had to be the Mazatels. I saw 3 or 4 different mountains out there and figured at least one of them had to be Mt. Ord. Deffenatly very pretty in the snow. It's kinda neat to see snow from Phoenix. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!
