Maybe we will get a good wild flower show this year!
When does it start / peak? |

Usually March is the best -- agagin it depends on this rain sustaining itself through the next month or so.
I was out last week hiking near Tuson & saw some smattering of wildflowers -- Penstamons were out in full force in King's Canyon Trail heading up to Wasson Peak _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

We were in the Mazatzals Sat-Mon. Water running everywhere, it was awesome. Unfortunately, it was flood run off, the flows were decreasing noticably in just the time were in there. Saw a few wild flowers trying to "pop," I'm sure there will be more. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

With this rain so late in the season - and so much of it, we will likely have a decent show out in the Superstitions. If we get a lot more rain, that will give us a really good show in the Sups. But so far, the rainfall will definitely give us a better show than we had last year. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I'll have to check out the supes again after it has rained a little, I would really like to see it in bloom. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

It needs to warm up a little more before you get to really see it in bloom. When daily temperatures are averaging in the mid 80's - then head on over. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

80's, ug, like the 60's and 70's. About what month do the flowers come in bloom? _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

Yes, mid March and into April are usually when they start. But with as warm as it's been lately, they may be out sooner. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Flowers are showing up nicely at Lost Dutchman park around the intersection of Siphon draw and Jacob's Crosscut. Several more look like they will be opening in the next few days.
We were out there yesterday and will be back today with the camera... Jacobs Crosscut is amazingly green and makes for a great quick after work hike right now (about 4.5 miles from dutchman to firstwater road and took us less then 2 hours to do).
I learned something last evening, the poppys close up as the sun goes down! We walked through them about 4pm and they were all open, came back about 5:30 and they were all closed. _________________

Now that it's finaly warming up again out here, it's no longer snowing, but raining out the wazoo. The left part of our driveway, which is only ground, is no longer useable due to the fact that it's all mud now. We've already got stuck in our own driveway 5 times in the last week. The sun can come out and dry it up already. _________________ "IRONMAN" cometh, hiketh, destroyeth |
