Kai Ling was brought up since he was a kitten in accordance with his "noble" lineage. He eats only the most expensive cat food.
"Give him a different brand or flavor and his little tummy gets upset," said Billie Stanley of Gold Canyon, who bought the Siamese from a breeder in Mesa six years ago.
Kai Ling is a pampered indoor cat. In the mornings he meows during Billie and her husband's conversations. To stretch his legs, he parades around the patio, but he is tethered with a long leash because his front claws are removed.
Then the prince of the house became a prince of the wild.
The Stanleys are retired, and Kai Ling enjoys traveling in their recreational vehicle. In July 2003, the couple visited Yellowstone National Park. While they were busy settling in, Kai Ling disappeared into the park.
The Stanleys searched for the cat for four days. Billie woke up in the middle of the night to search for him.
At the end of their visit, the couple were forced to leave without their beloved cat. "We 'buried' Kai Ling, and I cried," Billie said.
A few weeks later, the Stanleys returned to Arizona. No, Kai Ling was not on their doorstep, but they did receive a call from the manager of the RV park at Yellowstone. Park personnel thought they spotted Kai Ling. but they weren't sure. Billie called daily to check on his status until the park told her they would call if he was sighted again.
"Our dear cat was not to been seen again," said Billie. "No way could that pampered puss survive the wildlife in that area."
The only speck of hope was that the cat's remains, his collar and tags have not been found.
"We wanted to hope but knew it was hopeless," she said. She "buried" him again and cried some more.
A week later the Stanleys received another call from the park. Kai Ling was spotted again. They packed the car for the 2,000-mile round trip.
When they arrived, they went to a log cabin where Kai Ling had been seen 10 minutes earlier.
"With tears of joy and hope, I began calling 'Kai Ling, Kai Ling,' " said Billie.
Within minutes, she heard his meow. The skinny and bedraggled Siamese peeked out from underneath the staircase. Twenty-eight days had passed since he disappeared.
"He had faith that we wouldn't desert him," said Billie. "How he survived we will never know." He shivered for three hours after being found.
Billie now calls him their miracle cat.
At home, Kai Ling still goes outside on his leash. When a coyote walks by, it doesn't bother him. escapade, he's prince of the wild.

Nice heart warming story. _________________ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. |
