I think everyone had a blast. It was nice to meet some folks I only knew through the site. The rain made lots of mud for us and we had a temperature of 27 degrees this morning at 7:00 AM.
I'll post more later, I just got in and need a shower.

Desert Dweller, Desertgirl, and a friend stayed out again tonight. All in all GTG, Arizonaheat, AZHiker96, CatValet, Valet2, the aforementioned members, and I all participated. It was a good trip with a successful side trip to Circlestone. Met some hikers there that took 3 tries to find it. Don't be alarmed if you've never been there though, because it really wasn't that difficult to find. (This time at least) Water was plentiful but not overwhelming. The road in was also in good shape as well despite the rain. Arizonaheat and CatValet both made it in 2WD with no problem and I never locked in my hubs. _________________ Mike T

Well, I can't believe it but I'm still alive! Not moving very quickly this morning but happy and remembering good memories with laughs. (Stop grunting so loud... ) I have never been so comfortable sleeping in a tent. Dryloft- King Tut- and a 2 inch Thermarest... and oh yeah... 3 cups of Peppermint Patties... and that was "all she wrote!"
Driving in we saw a Coyote. When we were walking (and crawling) out a yearling deer came right up next to us about 20 feet away. Then, later, I walked up to another one and got within 10 feet of it. Wonderful!
I know my limits better now... about 2.5 miles I need a refresher break.. Gatorade and Cliff bar... great for another 2-3 miles and then my darn Rigor Mortis starts to set in. All of sudden I remember how old I am and reality comes crashing down along with my backpack.
All in all everyone made my first backpacking trip a great experience! Thanks and happy trials until we met again. Oops... Freudian slip.... I really meant "trails" _________________ Learning is a life long process, schooling is only one part, an education is what I will have when I leave this place. |

Great trip. The weather was great, good company, beautiful scenery. Valet2 did a super job on her first backpacking trip. I'm right proud of her.
First time for me going UP that trail. All in all, I'm not sure it is easier than the approach from the north; but fun to come in that way and see what the place looks like from that perspective.
It was a great hike. The Wonder Cat was happy to see us return, however. Let do another one again real soon. -R |

Sounds like you all had a great time. Wish I could have gone. I was too tied up with tuning my buddy's car for the races next weekend. Test 'n tune.
I'll keep an eye out for the next one. Have to break in my new equipment sometime soon. |
