OK, I just received another one.
Mike, it seems like I am receiving a notification every time I post. That means that Daddee must have about a thousand new emails
Hope this helps..... _________________ Steve |

srlatty, do you get a watch notice about the topic you posted to, or after you post you just get a random watch alert. mine have been just random threads that have been dormant for weeks. _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

The first couple were totally random, topics that didn't even exist. The last 2, tonight, were to the same topic. One that I started several weeks ago and had not had any traffic for quite a while.
BTW, you're fighting a losing battle. Know what I mean? _________________ Steve |

Gang, I wish I had an answer at this point. It's happening to me, as well. At first I thought watched topics were randomly being added to the database. But, now I'm not so sure. I did some searching yesterday and couldn't find anyone who's had or having the same issue. I'll keep trying to find the problem. I'm getting them, too, y'all... _________________ |

It's happening to me. The latest is a topic called Happy New Years Hikers and when I link to quit the watch it tells me that topic doesn't exist. _________________ ;o)> |

I got the "Happy New Years Hikers" too. When I clicked on it, it took me to the center of an old thread. _________________ Steve |

The topic exists, but it's in a forum that's hidden from view to all but the admins. I set it up to test the modifications we added early on. I'm still using it occasionally.
Has anyone noticed whether the notifications you receive are for the topics to which you just posted? _________________ |

no, all of mine have been random topics, usually ones that have been dormant for a while. _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

Ok, I found out what is happening, now I just have to find the code that's causing it. When you post, the script is inserting a record in the database table that contains the watched topics information. That table has three fields. The topic ID, the user ID, and an idicator field called 'notify_status'. The indicator is used so that you don't get flooded with emails, you get one notice when a reply is posted and no more until you go read the topic.
What is happening is, when you reply to a topic, a record gets added using the FORUM ID, not the topic ID (thus the old topics in the email...) with your user ID. If one already exists for that topic, no record is added. I posted in one of the topics under the hidden testing forum, which is forum ID 8. A record was added with my ID and the number 8 as the topic ID. Topic 8 is "Fine site for learning compass basics" under the Orienteering category.
Now, I've found the problem. I'm off to hunt down the bug... _________________ |

Thanks Dennis!
BTW, you may see some popup messages for the next few minutes. Just close 'em and ignore them. They're decoys! _________________ |
