I found these receipts on line today and thought I would share them, they compare about .06 a liter, compared to 1.50 store bought.

Basic Sports Drink
• 1 quart (32 oz) or 1 liter water
• 1/3 cup sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon table salt
• Flavoring to taste - orange juice, lemon juice, etc.
Keep refrigerated.

20-Oz. Sports Bottle's Worth of Sports Drink
• 3 tablespoons table sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon table salt
• Flavoring to taste - orange juice, lemon juice, unsweetened Kool-Aid or Wyler's drink mix, etc. Suggest trying 2-3 tablespoons of juice or 1/3 packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid.
• Fill halfway with water, mix well.
• Top off with water.
Keep refrigerated.

Your Own Powdered Sports Drink
I like to take along sports drink powder and mix it up with water from a water fountain, etc. when out on my long walks, after drinking my first sports bottle of plain water.
• 9 tablespoons table sugar
• 3/8 teaspoon table salt
• 1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid or other drink mix.
Mix dry.
Portion 1/3 of the mixture into each of three ziplock bags.
To reconstitute, add contents of 1 bag to a 20-oz. sports bottle. Fill halfway with water, mix, and fill with water, mix again

That's for 3 servings worth, so it's only 3 tablespoons per 20-oz bottle. Still seems like a lot, though.

I think that would come to 3 tablespoons per liter. I haven't tried this, just found them today. I use Gookinaid, as I really don't care for too much for sugar and find gatorade too sweet. Okay, now I might have to go buy a kool-aide to check this out. Mary

It's 3 tablespoons of sugar per 20 ounces of water in the second and third recipe. The first recipe is for a liter and calls for 1/3 cup of sugar. Of course, that'd be considered the diet version on the South Carolina Sweet Tea Scale.

I can't stomach gatorade...it's way to sweet...if I do use it I have to dilute it by at least 1/2

My father-in-law ALWAYS asks for sweet tea regardless of where we go out to eat...ALWAYS!!

I have to add that the coloring RED # 40 is real bad, its in many junk foods including Gatorade and others. Has a negative effect on children the most. Go do a search on it, you will be surprised...

And mary, I was fooling around with something like your recipe and thought it might help if one would add potassium pills to the mix. whadya think?

I agree with the potassium, this is why I like Gookinaide. Not sure if I would do these receipts, but thought I would share them. Some days when I'm feeling sluggish, I'll take a potassium tablet and I'll feel much better almost right away. I spend too much time in and out of the heat. Mary

That's why I usually use Gatorade powder mix. You can mix it however you want.

I mean, if you're not eating and drinking 100% pure things, you're taking in something bad these days. I don't care what it is. The red #40 thing sounds like sensationalism to me. I know I've taken in TONS of the bad coloring stuffs in my lifetime so far. I ain't dead yet.

Besides, Gatorade makes a great 'Gator-ita'. Shades

You could use salt substitute (potassium chloride) in place of the salt to add potassium.

Probably one of the most revivifying drinks I know of is one part Black Cherry Juice to three parts water. I has about the same number of carbs that Gatorade does but doesn't have the synthetic taste. It is far less expensive as well. I use Knudsen brand and it is good, nothing but pure black cherry.

Fruit has it's own natural salts.
