Didn't see it, but the way the D-Backs are playing about the only way they're gonna win. They did win, didn't they? _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

You don't get any runs and tie for zero. I wouldn't put it past them...
so, an interesting aside:
A few years ago some guys at yale came out with a study claiming that in order for someone to hit a baseball moving at 95 miles per hour that person would have to be "super-human." Funny thing is, it's commonly known (I think) that a no-hitter is a statistical impossibility. So it turns out its impossible for a person to hit a baseball and its impossible for a person NOT to hit a baseball. _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

Is that at 95 MPH? How about 94 MPH? Did those Yalies do a study on that? Inquiring minds want to know................

Okay, (showing my baseball knowledge), I thought the "Big Unit" was a new backpacking stove! I think I'll stick to Mary |

Ha ha ha Mary~~~~well...the "Big Unit" is Randy Johnson, he's something like 6'5" and delivers a 95 MPH+ lethal fast ball. He could probably carry you, me and a backpack stove and not even think twice about it. Cy Young awards too in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
Just an FYI

Cy Young in 1995 and 2002 also.
I guess the critics will shut up when it comes to asking if he's still got what it takes. |

He's 6'10". If I'm not mistaken, he's the tallest player in the history of Major League Baseball. Imagine someone that tall, standing 60 feet away and throwing a pitch toward you at nearly 100 mph! Also, he is now the oldest player in MLB history to pitch a perfect game. _________________ [/size] |

I chuckle when I think if Randy as my biggest memory of him is the little action figure that was glued at the tip of the Flat iron the day I finally got to the top of the iron! It was kinda like here he is at the top of the world! This was a couple of years ago after the World Series win and I am sure it is gone by now but who'd a thunk that's what you would find up there? _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

Pedro Martinez almost did it.
Montreal at San Diego, June 3, 1995, 1-0, 10 innings. He pitched nine perfect innings, allowed leadoff double in 10th and was replaced by Mel Rojas, who finished one-hitter in 1-0 win.
So, technically, not a perfect game, but he did pitch 9 innings perfectly.
Sounds about right for the Red Sox. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."
