I like the adopt a family idea for the holidays. I think the adopt a highway idea sounds good too. I was thinking some part of I-17, that way while were on the way to our hikes and get stuck in the traffic for hours we can just pick up the trash while were there! Laughing But really I support whatever you guys want to do.

Great ideas and I'm jazzed about participating in whatever the group decides.

I know many families that get help during the holiday season. People will come out of the wood work to donate during the months of November and December.

Food for thought: The real challenge for these families is finding help during the rest of the year.

I've enjoyed this website, the people that I have met, the experiences and knowledge gained. I'm looking forward to giving back a portion of what I have received.

This site and the people who support it are just astonishing. You can count me in to support any cause that AZH is a part of.

Hey Todd,

Now I know where you got that big Heart of yours.

Thanks to all who make this site possible, (Mike, Todd, Mickey).

And thanks to all the characters that make this site so enjoyable (HIG, Hoolie, Stan, Dianne, Ck1, Daddee, Suzaz, SandeJ, Heat, JW, Hnak, Paintninaz, SUNHIKER, Catvalet, Trish, and all the others).

I think the idea of "giving back" runs deep within the souls of the people who frequent this sight and have become a part of this hiking community.

I agree with Suzaz that supporting a family who is less fortunate than us during the year is a noble cause which should be considered. I too, will support the ideas of giving back.

roger

Count me in on anything. I also agree with Susan. It's like the soup kitchens and cupboards. They are full for the most part during the holidays but in much need of help the rest of the year.

Thanks Roger,

But since GTG and I are about the only "characters"(?) who hang-out here, I think all the rest are community "participants", no? Of course, I was wrong once before... :)) So who knows?

Mickey,

You're very generous and there should be more people like you in this world! Thanks so much.........I hope you realize how much everything is appreciated by this entire community. As we are a community, I agree with the general consensus of giving something back to the community and fully support any program you wish to contribute to. I agree with the opinions of others who posted regarding families in need throughout the year. It's a sad but true fact and unfortunately, many of us are caught up in our day-to-day lives, we forget this.

This community has been a source of wonderful adventures and great friendships over the past year. I'm very grateful for that.

Whatever is decided upon, let me know how I can help. I'll gladly participate.
Mr. Green

My first thought was to the Pappas School, but there are plenty of other charities out there.

That's the school that I was thinking about, but had forgotten it's name. It would be hard to say what was a greater gift....giving to these kids, or receiving their gifts of gratitude. I tend to love kids any ways. but these kids just need small amounts of love to make a huge difference in their lives.

I'm willing to do anything, but I do hope that what ever we do, it will touch at least someones life, for a life time. Introduction to the outdoors can do that for most people.

As everyone has said above, i would love to be involved in giving back. i have tried to set something up with my group of friends to no avail. I am very excited about helping out, both financially and time wise. The Thomas J Pappas School is a definetly worthy cause, for those of you who do not know about it check it out.

Any charity though that is chosen by this group i will be happily involved.

I love the idea of helping out at T. J. Pappas! What a wonderful opportunity that would be for all of us who have so much to help those who have so little!

I love the idea. One point to kick around. Consider timing the charity event at another time than the holiday season. Perhaps before the start of the school year? At the start of summer break when a single working Mom doesn't know what she is going to do with her children? Folks have needs year 'round and while I realize that donations will never match needs, there is already quite a bit going on during the holiday season. It almost seems like feast or famine to me. Anyway, just food for thought. I'm in regardless of how the final plan shapes up.

Love your enthusiasm, but keep in mind we're a very small operation, so don't expect to see big bucks. It'd be nice, but unrealistic.

I like the thought 'At the start of a summer break when a single working mom doesn't know what she is going to do with her children'. This is something highly overlooked. Not everyone trying to put themselves and their children in a better position has the support of family, friends, or the government. I know how hard it is. I'd love to help make the road to independance easier for someone.
