How are high gas prices affecting you?
I'm not bailing out on any planned trips yet, but they are going to cost a fortune in gas. I am considering buying a more economical vehicle for daily driving and I'm wishing I wouldn't have sold my motorcycle. Right now it's costing me almost $6/day ($120 per month!) in gas just to go to work! _________________

Yes, I'm probably not going to do much traveling in the motorhome. Just round trip to the GC will cost over $100 at today's gas prices.
With the price of gas and the way the stock market's going , I'm gonna start practicing, "Would you like fries with that?" and "Can I supersize that for you?" phrases _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Dave and I started carpooling to and from work; good for the environment. We also walk a lot more than we used to (good for our health). As for summer plans, I've considered flying more than driving this year. Normally I love driving to Vegas, but w/ the price of gas compared to Southwest RT prices, I think its finally cheaper to fly than drive!! _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

I figure you only live once. Make the best of the situation. You can always recover the loss some other way. In between trips though, the cycle is going to get a workout. |

I think its is affecting my weekend plans -- I have scaled back quite a bit on weekend hikes - used I'd hop in and drive 100 miles + for a good hike ....now I am more delibrate -- tend to do backpacks ( allows more experience points for same $$ in gas) & seek carpooling options.
I have been wanting to poke around Utah - that on hold till I find car pool partners that share interest in the area _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

Okay. Lets take a theoretical 500 mile trip. Let's also assume you drive a medium gas hog at 15 mpg. (Not the worst I've heard of but pretty bad, and I'm willing to bet most of us do better) So... 500mi/15mpg = 33.3gal
2.10 x 33.3 = 69.99
1.50 x 33.3 = 49.99
Spend 20 bucks and take the trip. You only live once.
I can see cutting back on superfluous trips and motorhome travel though... |

If that's a round trip, now its up to $40.00. Even baby steps will eventually add up, either to travel or savings. The choice is a matter of circumstance and priority. _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

I'm getting bummed about the price of gas as well.
However, I saw something very interesting this graph showing the price of gas adjusted for inflation. It doesn't look that bad seen that way - but still...$2.00+ a gallon is still feels pretty steep right now. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I just got went from a 78 jeep truck (terrible gas mileage) to a 89 buick (fantastic gas mileage). So it turns out that now with the increase in gas prices I'm still paying significantly less on gas in a month. Anyway, I voted no. _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

I bicycle commute as much as possible these days, so I can afford the gas to drive to the TH's. Plus, it's great lo-impact cross-training! |

Yeah. But you only live a mile away from work dork.
Anyways, I'll bet that 'cartoon car' gets pretty decent mileage.

I'm staying within a 2.5 hour 1 way drive. I guess I won't be going to the Chiricahua's and Blue Range this year. The gas supplies are going to be tight this summer and I bet for far longer. Don't be surprised if you see $2.50 a gallon soon, people will pay. No choice. Anyway in defence of the oil companies look how much we're willing to pay for bottled water! |
