This should really be posted in the "gear" section, not the "events" section

Added later:

or the trail and camp food section...

I agree, a good cup of coffee is an event. A bad cup of coffee, a tragedy. No cup of coffee, dangerous. Evil or Very Mad

Victor, if you repost elsewhere, I promise to share. Very Happy We virgos do love organization.

In the meantime, I'll be in search of a clever sig quote.

The coffee singles are very tasty IMHO-the key is REALLY hot water-but then again I like the folgers instant.

Sprinkle a little powdered French Vanilla creamer in for good measure.

Matt-
I understand. If we let this post slide in the "events" section, what's next? What precedent does that set? Doesn't that give us permission to break laws willy nilly? Society is based on rules. We must obey them. Thanks for stifling this flirtation with the complete breakdown of society> And for heaven's sake- please color inside the lines. Rolling Eyes

Bare minimum, I throw together Nescafe Clasico (the kind marketed to Latinos) + powdered creamer (gag!) + sugar in the raw.

An alternative, is one of those plastic Melita cones with the cone filters. Boil water + brew on top of my thermal sipper. It's double walled stainless steel, and weighs a ton. But I NEED it. If I can fit some of those never-go-bad half and half creamers that I scored from the Circle K, all the better.

Next time, I may try a plexi press. Besides making a decent cuppa (if albeit, a tad silty) it can double as a milk frother. We'll see if it can handle frothing reconstituted powdered milk though. My understanding is that fattier milk frothes better, because its bubbles are sturdier.

I have picked up that teeny tiny espresso maker they sell at REI a few times. But I just can't bring myself to buy it. It just ... soooo ... yuppy-like. Rolling Eyes

But these look pretty neat for the price:

(sorry pete, you know what an upstanding citizen I am. I'm just trying to do my part Wink besides it does make it easier for other people with the same question to find an answer, I doubt any one else with this question would think to look under the events forum)

That place is pricey! REI has those for $15, both the alum. espresso maker and the french press. (Just put "espresso" in the search box and you'll get several hits)

Now this thingie is something I might use instead of my melita cone. And I already have one that's very similar, but I had been using it to make chai. I see a new use for it in the future!

Costco has the flavored creamers in single servings (about a tablespoon?) and all the flavors... Hazelnut, irish cream, etc.
Most of your guys ideas will work fine, and I have one to add:

if in real need of that caffeine buzz, dip a pinch of ground beans and chew it like you would Skoal. Hey, it works.

Id go for the lexan GSI french press. Comes in 2 sizes.

Now THAT's more like it. I've been looking for something like that. I usually do the single coffee packets.

Thanks

Check out the Coleman Camp Coffee Maker, not sure what camping type you are asking about. Works just like a Mr. Coffee but on a camp stove (family camping).

Get a small lexan coffee press from REI. Not too pricey because you'll use it over and over. The key is to get whole coffee beans and grind them the night before you leave........or if you're a nighthiker, the night you leave. Razz

I like a combo of beans. I usually mix a dark roast bean with a milder Columbian medium roast for my own blend. One TBSP ground per 8 oz water is a general rule but I like my coffee strong so I use the 2:1 rule Get the water to a rolling boil and add to the press.

Since I'm a spoiled girl, I love half & half with my coffee at home but actually drink it black, no sugar on the trail since I refuse to use the powdered milk.

The international standard for brewing coffee is 2 TBSP per 6 oz. water, but that's generally too strong for most American tastes (not mine... Razz). The water should be just below boiling temperature, so let it cool for a moment before pouring it in the press. And, be sure to use a coarse grind for a coffee press, unless you enjoy Turkish coffee, that is.
