I.... he mentioned that many of the foods we choose for breakfast are short on salt. What this means is that we start off on a warm day without enough salt (you can't eat too much--your body just gets rid of it). |
Excellent point..except if your brekfast consists of cheese-its & such!
Are there some good Breakfast food recomendations that account for this ? Usually I supplement my breakfast with some kind of Gookinaid/Emergen-C type stuff in my drinking water. |
I'm afraid I don't follow my own advice very well but you valley folks would do well to read on the package and have a salty breakfast since you hike in the heat. I have forgotten the foods they said were high in salt but I think chex mix was one of them. _________________ Shikekeh hozhoogo naasha.

Anyone have a new super whamma-jamma idea for Breakfast Food that they've discovered recently?
I am *REALLY* tired of oatmeal and granola, which is what we usually have.... Any suggestions are appreciated.
I think after reading this thread that I will definitely be trying the precooked bacon. I hadn't thought of that, and it seems like a tasty idea!

I am a fan of oatmeal for breakfast but the Peanut Butter and Tortilla's never got old on the trail. I would consider that for breakfast. |

Vashti,
I swear by cooking up some Canadian Bacon or kielbasa before a backpack and then after it's cooled, wrapping it in foil and freezing it. Since it's a smoked meat, it keeps well for a few days. I also swear by hardboiled eggs. They keep for two days. Of course you can always bring some mayo packets and make egg salad to stuff into those tortillas.

ive been toying with a product called Heavyweight 900- its a powdered calorie drink from Hi-Health.
Now, its not the super wamma-jamma thing but its got 630 calories with 2 cups water, its easy to mix and gives you super energy!
one container has 21 servings and costs $40
its also full of electrolytes and vitamins. This in conjunction with oatmeal or banana chips or whatever makes for a dandy way to start the day _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Sounds Yummy -- Mango & Green Tea are both my faves...Might just have do a run to Trader Joe's to find the Mango Granola!
Tortilla's definitely hold up quite well in a pack ...you can even trail toast them on a hot rock! _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

I just double checked and its full name is Organic Mango Passion Granola under their label so it has a little Passion fruit in it as well. It is the best I have ever had. We have taken it backpacking for years now. I even had some in my pack last week when we did the "in-law" trip to New York. I just munched on it during the airplane ride. We had some trail mix of our own design that we made up from a bunch of things we got from Trader Joe's. They both make great travel food.
At home I like to brew up some good china green tea in my little tea pot which is made for brewing whole leaves, but on the trail or when traveling I like the Good Earth Green tea in teabags. It is the freshest best tasting bagged tea I have tried. I just let the bags dry some and pack them back out of course. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys
