Starting from the Barnhardt trailhead, this lengthy backpack will cross the Mazatzal from east to west, sampling a good chunk of the more remote western Mazatzal Wilderness before looping back across the divide and returning via Rock Creek Trail to our starting point. The route winds through forests of oak, ponderosa pine and sycamore, as well as deep canyons and rolling hills. You can anticipate cool hiking days and great evening fireside conversation, dozens of miles from anything resembling civilization. Springs/Seeps will undoubtedly be full. This is a great wilderness hike! _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
