I'm going to try for a Spur Cross hike tomorrow if the rains aren't too much. The wash on the way in will be running and Cave Creek will be full I suppose too. I'm going to do a customized loop of sorts with a side trip to find the javalina skull I saw weeks ago without my camera and also another side trip to try to find an old plane crash. Interested? We should be back to the cars before 3:00 PM. I'm going to try for a 7:30 AM start. Post here first so I know how many beers for afterwards we need. Remember, it's $3.00 to get in each.

Love that rain,
GTG

Directions to trail: I-17 North to exit 233. Head east on Carefree Highway 9.7 miles to Cave Creek Road. Head North on Cave Creek Road 2.6 miles to Spur Cross Ranch Road. 4.2 miles to the parking lot.

or

To access the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area from downtown Cave Creek, turn north on the Spur Cross Road; continue 4.5 miles to the designated parking area. Spur Cross Road is 4.2 miles west of Pima Road and Cave Creek Road. It is 2.5 miles northeast of Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road.

I'm planning on being there at 7:30 AM

Umm, Goatboy, she's coming from Gold Canyon... Rolling Eyes

Take the 60 west to the 101, go north on the 101, exit at Cave Creek Road, turn right and head north. About 2.5 miles after you cross Carefree Highway, turn left onto Spur Cross Road. You'll see a sign just before the turn. A short distance after you onto Spur Cross Road, it makes a turn to the right, followed by a quick turn to the left. Follow the road a little over 4 miles, watch for the parking lot on your right, just past a horse corral. If you miss, it you'll come to a dead end about 100 yards further, just turn around in the artsy-fartsy driveway on the left and head back to the parking lot.

Thanks.

I'm going to play it by ear and watch the weather. The sky seems to be clearing but the rain continues here.

Hey Guys what's the weather looking like on your side of town?
Any info before I call the boys to wake them up?
It's dry here and 50 degrees with some significant clouds hanging around.

We've got a light steady rain out. I'm about a dozen miles south of Spur Cross.

Jim, Harley and I did Picket Post today....or at least part of it. The rain hit us before we made it to the top so I'll have to finish this one another day. We had hoped to do Spur Cross but noticed the clouds breaking up on this side of town first while they were looking scary in the opposite direction. Pics are up in the gallery.

Aren't the pics cool? Suz has an eye!

Suz, Harley and I paused about every 100 yards to photog a flower! We were hoping to hit on some neat Rattlers, but they were all laying low because all the rodents were staying home because of the rain.

Harley and I calculated that a pic every 100 yards would mean that we'd finish the mission at the summit, in a day or two, with about a thousand pics. :))

This was an impromptu, ("...can you get out-of-bed, JW?"), let's just-get-out somewhere, type of hike. Real fun!

Splendid day, Suz and Harley! Thanks!
