First Rattlesnake Of The Year

Well we had our 1st rattlesnake encounter at work last night. There was a rattlesnake in the path of the door to one of the buildings we needed to get into out at Luke AFB. So they called entomology which comes and relocates that snakes. So the guy pulled up wearing shorts and sandels. Had a little snake stick and got the head pinned down and was able to pick it up. Then he yelled fu*#, son a bit%$ and a few other words. He got bit in the hand so they called the base hospital and they came and picked him up. Meanwhile they put a garbage can over the snake and someone else came and picked up the snake and took it away in a little snake box. It was a about 3 feet long. This happened at about 9:00 pm. So needless to say I was a little more carefull tonight about where I walked and where I was sticking my hands. Be safe!

Observed three since Sunday. One was at work and we used snake tongs and relocated the snake. All three western diamondbacks

an entomologyst was bit by a snake. damm thats funny! Laughing

I bet he wishes he was a "herptologyst" then he could feel right at home catching insects, right?

I saw a stuffed rattler today in the museum at Ft Huachuca. Much different than I expected, very large girth, but only a couple feet long. I believe it was a Mohave.

If you've never been inside the Fort, it's pretty interesting.

They have a large one at the Arizona Mineral Museum in Phoenix, It will make you give up hiking.

Observed two rattlesnakes while bicycling this morning (street bike) both were buzzing as I went by. Hiked to Hieroglyphic Springs did not observe any snakes.
