|
|
WHERE: First Water TH
WHEN: March 6 @ 9 AM
This is a pretty easy 9.5+ mile loop hike in the Western Superstitions and I've traditionally done this one clockwise from Second Water through Garden Valley and up Black Mesa Trail into Boulder Basin. I'm thinking we need to add some zing to it and do it counter-clockwise and go in from the Dutchman #104 through Parker Pass to Boulder Basin and hike up Black Mesa (just for a change of pace). It's about 4 miles in on the Dutchman to Aylor's Camp so this would be a good place for lunch. Then a decent elevation gain and leg workout going up Black Mesa. I'm not sure of the elevation gain from Boulder Basin to the top of Black Mesa so anyone with this info please chime in. I know it's a decent climb.
FYI $4 fee at FW Trailhead
Found a great place for Post-hike and y'all should love this! Red, White & Brew on McDowell & Power Road. Excellent food and great beer.

Great hike. Thanks Trish for putting it together.
Few things I learned...
The washes in the supes really are there for a reason
I can use my wife's pant leg as a depth gage for the creek crossings
Tom can eat a lot of food, really fast
Colin likes boring movies
Four Peaks beer has a horrible morning after
I posted my pics. I thought for sure my snow covered Four Peaks shots wouldn't turn out, but a little photoshop color enhancing and I'm quite pleased with them. To cap off a great hike and a very fun post hike meal, on the way home we witnessed the most incredable moon rise I've ever seen coming up from the supes. The picture does it no justice. Full moon and very large. _________________

Great pics, Daryl! Wasn't that moonrise awesome?? It made me want to get out of the chaise lounge and go back to the Supes!
I had to laugh out loud at two of your comments:
Tina's pant leg's (if you remember I had asked her what happened to her pants!)
Tom inhaling his food........did he actually breathe during that 5 minutes? He was poised and ready to steal yours!

Diane, I went backpacking on Barnhardt Trail. You would love that hike, if you haven't done it. Mary |

Just wanted you to wake Goatboy.......looks like he's catchin' 40+ winks right there on the trail. Matter of fact, looks like Tracy's catchin' ZZZZ's too! The aroma from your shoe phone knock 'em out? _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

I think you need the double-secret probation, password protected phone number or else you're not getting a satellite signal out there in the Supes!
We really should have taken a photo of the socks along with the shoes.
