Since there is so much interest in this hike, When do you feel is the best time? Mid february? March? The more advance notice, the better...
Who has a 4 X 4? Where are you coming in from?
There is a gas station in the estrella ranch area we can meet and car pool the rest of the way in...
Im in Glendale so I'll be coming from I-10 West side |

I would like to do this sometime mid-February. I have a Jeep Wrangler and can accomodate 2 or 3 people, depends on if Mrs. srlatty wants to go!
I will be coming in from the south side. We could meet in one of the shopping center lots around Ray Rd and I-10. God knows there are enough of them! _________________ Steve |

Steve-> thanks for the directions... I knew there was 4x4 access from the south but no one ever seem to remember the street names.

Directions from Maricopa are pretty simple. Take Maricopa road West from I-10. You can either exit Maricopa rd or Queen Creek road exit. Follow this West app. 12 miles to the intersection with 238. Go West on 238 toward Mobile app. another 10 - 12 miles to 91st Ave. Turn north on 91st Ave. This will veer to the left (west) after about a mile. Continue to 99th Ave and turn right (North). Go North on 99th Ave about a mile and it will become dirt. After about another mile, there is a small airport. A couple of hundred yards before the airport gate, there is a 4x4 trail that turns off to the east, follow that to the end of the fence around the airport. At the end of the fence, the trail will turn north, follow it. You will follow it until it intersects with the trail that follows the power lines, about 3 miles. Take the power line road north and follow until you see a BLM marker with the word "trail", probably another 6 miles. Turn right at the marker and follow for another 2 miles to the trailhead. All in all, this is roughly 40 miles from the I-10/Chandler Rd. intersection. |

If I'm not mistaken, the 18th is a Tuesday. _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

How does Saturday February 22nd sound? Unfortunately, the 15th isn't good for me. We could also look at the 8th, but thought that might be too short notice. _________________ Steve |

I'd like to go I am going to Chicago sometime in Feb for my best friends wedding. It's going to be so small that there isn't a date set. She's a reporter for the Chicago Trib and is calling a last minute date depending on what's happening in the Chicago area. I know this doesn't help plan too far ahead but I will know a week in advance. I can drive (although others may debate that), have a 4x Cherokee and can fit 3 others, 4 if need be. I'll be coming from Tempe. |

Just talked to my friend. She's hoping for the weekend of the 14th. Guess it's that Valentine's thing. If that's the case I'll be home the following Thurs. Let's keep our fingers crossed! |

Pretty good turn out so far....
Who has a 4x4 or another vehicle that can reach the trailhead and from what direction will you be coming?
There is a place in estrella ranch we can meet at and carpool the rest of the way.
I will need a ride from there, my vechicle will not make it in the soft sand. |
