Since there is so much interest in this hike, When do you feel is the best time? Mid february? March? The more advance notice, the better...
Who has a 4 X 4? Where are you coming in from?
There is a gas station in the estrella ranch area we can meet and car pool the rest of the way in...
Im in Glendale so I'll be coming from I-10 West side |

Kristyn and Cactuscat, I have a 4 X 4 available, but unfortunately I'm on call that weekend so will be unable to go. That sucks |
That does suck! I was really hoping you would want to go. |

I have never needed a four wheel drive vehicle on my dozen trips to Quartz Peak, from either the north or the south. |

Thanks for the info Sid. I have never been there. Do you recommend a pickup or something else with high clearance, or do you do it in a car?
Cactuscat you know I want to go, the problem is I can't. _________________ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. |

I suspect that most cars could usually make it but I would bring a high clearance vehicle and keep it rolling across the sandy washes. I drive a 2 wd truck and have never been close( I think) to getting stuck. Of course, tomorrow, is another day. |

Heavy sand in spots; cakewalk's got a gteat story about it. Sid'd probably consider the ten mile hike from where cakewalk's car bogged down a "cakewalk". _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Like Sid says, a 2wd vehicle will make it. I feel more comfortable with one that has some clearance though. I have never come in from the north, only the south. My only concern would be the sandy places, wouldn't want to bog down out there like Cakewalk did.
Sid, even though none of us could keep up with you, would you like to join us? _________________ Steve |

I'm really pumped about this hike! _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."

Ok, here is what I have so far:
South and East
Srlatty
Cactuscat
Kristyn
gps hiker
Cindy
North and West
Evenstar
Cakewalk
dennisbench
Canyon Dweller
Cindy, I included you since your last post about the wedding seemed to indicate that you might be able to make it. If so, we'll need your truck. Don't think my Jeep will handle 5
If there is anyone else that is interested in this hike, let us know. This hike is scheduled for Saturday, February 22. Meeting times and places will be posted when we get a clear understanding of how many people are interested in attending.
Sid, that invitation is still out there! _________________ Steve |
