The scheduling committee convened and picked Sunday, Feb. 21, as the time to repeat this Epic Adventure. We'll go from Perata to First Water, just like last time. While the route lacks lung-busting grades, it is long, with no bail out options, so give this some serious thought before committing.
We'll refine the start time as we get closer but plan on early. Any "car trick angels" out there who want to assist with the shuttle will be greatly appreciated, and if I survive trip, I'll buy your meal after the hike.
To participate at a more reasonable level, consider hiking in and joining us from First Water

HAZ lists the trip as 17.6 miles. Last time we did it GPS units were registering very close to 18. The .4 mile notwithstanding, anyone considering the trip should give the distance full consideration.

For what it's worth, my Green Trails map shows it as 16.6 miles. Whether it's that or 18 miles, it sounds like a great epic hike! Consider me a strong maybe at this point in time.
BTW, please note the USGS map discrepancies in the HAZ trip report. That messed us up once.

That trail looks to pass through an area I've wanted to hike for quite some time - LaBarge Canyon. I'm going to have to strongly consider this one. I'd LOVE to do it - and I might just have time to get in shape for it too. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Trish, Michelle, Ambika and I all just did this hike yesterday. (1/30) It was glorious with all the water flowing. Can't think of a better hike in the State right now! Hope there is still lots of water for you all when this date rolls around. |

I agree w/Suz and hope y'all have the water. It made the hike almost surreal! Ambika's GPS registered the hike as 17.9 miles. _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

Hey Shawn,
Thanks for the Dutchman track -- it sure did come in handy guiding us home after dark... Now I can hike in darkness by GPS ( I think wemastered beach landings in dark by GPS a few years ago.... ) _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

You're more than welcome. Yes, I think we did some stealth beaching with the aide of a GPS some time ago. '
Did you "harvest" a track during your trip? If so, how did it compare to the one I made from the map? Care to share? _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Not got to recovering my track from GPS yet The work thing is getting in the way ....
But just from visual when I was following it -- it was right on and got me all they way to the sign for Dutchman & 2nd water I think ( basically to the the wilderness boundary) ...There is just the part from there that follows the road to the TH that was not on that track but it shows on the map & I just followed the road up to the parking lot ~ .2 miles I think it was from where the track ends.
I will send you the track if I successfully "harvest" it -- My track will be from CoffeeFlats intersection since I rest the GPS there ( user error in not resetting the track at the start of the hike so I already had 11 miles on when I got to Coffee Flats).
Perhaps I should read the user guide .... _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

It's a Garmin, the user guide is pretty worthless. (Unless they've improved a great deal from the 76 CSx _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |
