Jan 2010 GHOTM:Goldfield Ovens Loop
-
Something new, something pretty, something historic, something moderate, something near ...

This hike is being moved to the 3rd Jan - Sunday instead of 2nd Jan as I had originally posted ( It was an error on my part-- can't read my new calendar right!)

Difficulty: 2.5
Route Finding: 2
Distance Round Trip 7.75 miles
Elevation Gain 575 feet
Avg Time Round Trip 4 hours

Start Time: 8:00 am ish at the Blue Point Recreation Site
Directions to trail: North on Ellsworth in Mesa over Usery Pass to Bush Highway. Right on Bush Highway toward Saguaro Lake for 2.5 miles. After crossing the Salt River on the bridge take the first left marked Blue Point Recreation site. Park at the far north end of the parking lot near the restroom. Parking requires a Tonto Day Pass which must be purchased in town before arriving.

Please read up & look up the hike. I have not hiked here.

Come one every one! Lets hike!

Looks beautiful. I will see if any other hikers want to come along. I see you can order passes on line, cause the nearest place is Circle K.

This is part of the loop we horseback on frequently....there may be quite a few riders, as this is popular with many. We usually start at the culvert and end up near Blue Point on the way back. It is actually a very nice area. I may try to make it out there.

Can't make it on the 3rd due to a previous hiking commitment but I can recommend a place for lunch......Red White and Brew on Power and McDowell (I think it's McDowell...Tom knows where this place is) has an awesome menu and some great brews/microbews too. Enjoy the day~~~

Does anyone have a valid Tonto Pass or 2 ? Parking at the TH will require a Tonto Pass. If we have a few valid passes already -- lets see if we can carpool

Passes can be obtained : http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/passes/

Was going to ask today if anyone wanted to car pool. Be waiting to see if anyone wants to carpool and where/what time to meet. Wasn't quite sure how long it would take me to get there.

I'm heading out to run an errand. I'll stop at Sportsmans Warehouse and pick up 2 Passes.

Looking forward to this hike. I check hikes I want to do and never write them down.... Rolling Eyes but I think this is one of those I've been planning on doing one day or another Confused

Per AZLOT 69 of the hikearizona.com site: for those of you coming from the North Valley, you can take the Beeline from Shea to the Bush Hwy past Saguaro Lake to the Recreation area.

While I was out I picked up 2 Tonto Daily Passes. That should help.
