Merry Christmas everyone!!
So what are your hiking goals for 2009? It's time to look into that crystal ball. Things change so much during the year that this proves to be difficult. This year I've thought a lot about my hiking goals and came up with the following (with proposed dates -- let's go for 10/10 this year!):
1. Grand Canyon Tonto hike: Jan 2
2. Buckskin Gulch and/or the Wave: Feb 17
3. Egypt/Jordan/Israel adventure: March
4. Canyoneering class & Salome Jug: April 17
5. Little Colorado/Tanner: Mem Day
6. Powers Garden: July 4
7. West Coast Trail and Mt. Rainier: July 27
8. Wheeler Peak: Labor Day
9. Enchantments or AMC Climbing class: October
10. New hike in each: Superstitions, Goldfields, Sedona area, Catalinas, Maricopas, McDowells, Mazatzals, Anchas, Rim, Galiuros
Here's my wish for everyone to have happy hiking in 2009! |

Gosh, I've had such a great 2008 with some seat of my pants, and some planned out treks.
Here goes--
More Death Valley Anza Borrego area planned two weeks--end Jan early Feb. Hopefully will include the 4x4 trek of the Mohave Trail.
Retrace either the West Divide and or East Divide routes Galiuros
Utah in May--either backpack from upper Dark Canyon down to the Sundance exit a thru trip or finish a San Rafael Swell backpack trip I made partially several years ago.
Finish up some things on the Kaparowits Plateau, and some new stuff.
More Santa Teresas--Cottonwood mtn and try to locate a route into the interior.
The Grand Gila tour--up the Middle Fork, up into the high country, loop around and hit a few high points and down the West Fork. Up to 90 miles on this one. Hope I can get the time off and planning done for this one.
Northern New Mexico photo stuff.
More caving---anywhere anytime
More Grand Canyon Parashant NM--need at least 1 week there
Less work and more hiking

Nice, a buddy of mine and I have had our eyes on that one, and the White Rim Road up in Canyonlands too _________________ But let the mind beware, that though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are pretty glorious

Tim,
Let me know when you plan to do the Florida Canyon climb -- and for that matter the Powers Garden backpack. Ok, I'm also interested in Tanque Verde Peak!!

Trish, you might want to do the Rainbow Bridge backpack that runs along the base of Navajo mtn. Shawn is the expert on that one. You still need a permit; I did an in and out of the north side a couple of years ago as a spur of the moment and didn't get a permit. Fantastic country, some of the best backpacking I've ever done. Met a few Navajos running a pack train, and Shawn, Dave and a few fellow hikers briefly, other than that didn't see anybody and no TH problems with my vehicle. _________________ You can rest when you're dead |

1. Explore a lot of of trail places in the Tucson area, ridgelines, drainages ,ect
2. Get some new peaks off our SAHC list
3. Get some new canyons off our SAHC list
4. Backpack up to Doug Springs Campground
5. Backpack the W fork of the Gila in the Gila Wilderness
6. Backpack the Middle Fork Loop I have been wanting to do in the Gila Wilderness
7. Get into the East side of Arivipa again and revisit Hell Hole
8. Meet some new cool hiking buddies to exchange hiking tales.
How to achieve this:
exercise each day at least 10-15 minutes a day
be happy and keep on the sunny side of life _________________ Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. - Rachel Carson |

I am just happy to get out and do anything, to my limits. But if I had a list....
Hell's Hole
Moonlight Hike, Grand Canyon
Half Marathon in Colorado, again, with brother
Aravaipa
Keet Seel
Hackberry (Rob?)
And to get out and hike more, get in shape, instead of a circle.
And also for everyone to continue their fun and safe adventures, wherever you may go! _________________ Anne
