Getting ready, as many trips as I've taken still fun to get ready and not as automatic as I would like.
Got the car camping stuff organized ( nice to have enough gear for that and not touch the backpack stuff)
Food is 95% done
Backpack and it's gear is sitting on spare bedroom bed ready for it's stuffing into the bag. Need to make a few modifications to first aid kit.
Batteries for cameras charging and getting memory cards organized
Duffle bag for clothes etc is packed. Duffle bag holding "what if" is packed ( vertical gear, shorty wetsuit, daypack )
Maps and books-- 95% ready
Car gear --air compressor, fluids, spare jack--ready.

The PLAN--subject to modification on a moment's notice--
55-60 miles along the Escalante River. I'll be racing peak predictive run off end week of the trip. But is still predicted to be 10% below usual levels. For some reason this area didn't receive as much snow pack as others.
If anyone is on Hole in the Rock rd around May 16-17th near Hurricane Wash th and see a red head with a large yellow Osprey pack hitchhiking---it'll be me.
OR
lots of dayhikes, short overnighters I need to do too-- 3 canyons near Lake Powell, on top of 50 mile ridge off Hole in the Rock, top of Caineville Mesa, a couple of canyons near the Maze area.

One thing for sure--I'll do something!!! I leave Fri and I can't wait!!

Sure, make us jealous.

Aside from the unbelievable scenery, one of the coolest things about that area is the wide array of options you have allowing for last minute changes to the plan. It's possible to do multiple canyons or slots in the same day, especially since you can really haul the mail on HTRR if needed. Some of those S curves can sneak up on you tho...

I'm always amazed at the number of Europeans I meet in GSENM, way back in remote areas.

Have a great trip.

Letty,

I'll keep this mind. I'll be in Utah sometime from the 17th, 18th, or 19th till the 22nd, 23rd, or 24th. My brother and I are going climbing in Joes Valley and in Moab, but we can't climb every day, so plans might change at a moments notice. That is definitely the beauty of Utah (and pretty much the entire Southwest.)

Have fun! I haven't been to Utah in a few years and I'm all giddy!!

Quoting a favorite of my grandmother "if the good lord is willing and the creek don't rise"---I'll be in the Uintas come this next weekend. Imagine as I was doing research and looking at the map I ran across this nice TR of the area I plan to be in-

http://www.summitpost.org/trip-report/191298/east-fork-blacks-fork-loop.html

The photos only wetted my appetite, which grows more as I look at my Topos' and see the "falls" designation on the map---

However my research also led to this sad but intriguing story on the same site of a mother and daughter who never returned from their dayhike in the Uintas. It's not the same area I will be in, but reminds me the big mountains are not to be taken casually.
Their remains were found about 9 months later, and the camera with their last photos was still intact. With the photos published, immediately the media and veteran Uinta hikers were at odds as to the women's final route. A member of SP then launched a photo location investigation which drew in a lot of folks contributing to locate the final route.

RIP

Now I have to go look up where that saying comes from. Enjoy!
