I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about an agency that would take on the tire removal project from a saguaro?
On our way to Oak Creek Canyon I noticed a giant saguaro off the side of the road with a tire fitted around the middle of it. I have no idea if it is causing the cactus growing pains or not but the tire sure doesn't belong there, and I'd like to get some help for it.
Any ideas? |

Can't actually reach it from the road and it's a big one.It looks like someone threw the tire like at a ring toss you find at the State Fair. |

Or a battery operated saws-all. Could you reach it with a ladder? _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

There is a picture posted on HAZ under my Oak Creek Canyon set. For some reason I wasn't able to post that photo set on here. I got lots of error messages about my pictures not being real pictures....or something odd. So if you don't mind going over that site to view the picture, that would be great. I think it's the first one in the set. |

Heck of a toss! I wonder what they won?
Seriously, now that it's been there awhile and the cactus has grown into it, removing it will probably do more damage then leaving it there. Plus it's a great example of how stupid people can be. _________________

Yeah that certainly looks like it will be difficult to remove. It will definitely hamper any future growth though. Maybe a hack saw and a ladder would do the trick. About how high is it up in the tree? Is this just off a road or on a trail somewhere? (ie; how far would you need to carry the ladder) |

It does look like removing the tire could severly weaken the cactus. It is pretty grown in. It is sad that someone didn't think of removing it before it got grown into the plant...Heck it's even sadder that someone would do that in the first place. _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

I emailed a Saguaro Group to see what they think about removing it and included a picture as well. |

I just wonder how long that tire has been there. It looks like an old single-ply tire from the 50s. |

My email got returned. Yeah it looks like the tire has been there a long time. Probably best to leave it. |
