would like to get a piece to make a little tarp shelter
thanks

would that be as light or lighter than just buying a golite hut 1 or something?

I'm trying to get my weekend pack down to daypack size

dont bother with tyvek for a shelter it wont hold the thread, it will rip out.
get some sil nylon seconds from www.questoutfitters.com at about $5 a yard. Six yards will make a huge tarp. Or, I have for sale a solo tarp I made with silny that has a catenary cut ridgeline, great for going light. all you need is trekking poles and 8 stakes. (see gallery)

well I sold that one for $50
considering its $30 worth of material and 8 hours labor, a good price!
its not really a project that I would do if I couldnt sew!
so far, my sewing is getting better and my next real project will be a down quilt. I can make another tarp for $50 if you want. Tarping isnt for everyone, but with our lack of bugs, and by choosing a proper site combined with the fantastic "open" feeling of sleeping under the stars outside of a confining tent, tarps are a real treat. Definately nice for people who love convertible cars Very Happy especially since the AZ weather is so predicatable. Want one?

$20 profit / 8 labor hours = $2.50 an hour.

Will you do electrical work for the same wage?
