Water in my camelback for most trips. If I need to drink more than it hold I take powdered powerade to mix up in liter bottles. THen I alternate a liter of powerade to liter of water. another Emergen-C user here. Pure water can get to the point of being poisonous to your system if you drink enough and it is not supplemented with electrolytes. It might not kill you but it will slow you down. I ussually take plain water in my bottles. before I leave my home taking off to hike I will have 2 packets of EmergenC, so it should have kicked in by the time I have started. I brought some EmergenC on my last backpacking trip up Mount of the Holy Cross.
I don't like Camelbacks. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

Water and one bottle of Gatorade. I also bring powerbar gel just in case there is a need for another on the trail, or myself for and extra boost in energy and electrolytes.
I always make sure that I am positive on hydration and electrolytes before a long and taxing hike. If you begin negative, you are more likely to suffer more on the trail (cramps, fatigue, headaches) and set yourself up for an unpleasant hike.
Being propery hydrated and electrolyted prior is just as important as maintaining hydration on the trail while hiking. Remember, sodium is your friend and bring a salty snack. _________________ You can never eat too much candy... |
