|
We'll be celebrating ArizonaHikers.com's 4th anniversary
on February 24th, 2007 at Cave Creek Regional Park
http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/cave_creek/Camping.aspx
We have the Group Campground reserved for Fiday night the 23rd and Saturday night the 24th.
There are full RV hookups, ramadas, tables, electrical outlets,
flush toilets, hot showers, fire ring and water.
Some pictures of the area are here
Camping fees will be $8.00 per night per car, collected by myself or Hoomer at the campground.
You'll need to let the gate watch know you're camping with Arizona Hikers to pass without the park entrance fee.
Folks just coming in for the hiking and festivities for the day will need to pay the $5.00 park entrance fee at the gate.
We'll have the usual potluck, PM me with your additional guests and menu additions and I'll add them to the list.
I am bringing my Chuckers game, Hikingrl is bringing her Blong Ball game, does anyone have a horseshoe set?
Some of you may be interested that there is a horse riding outfit in the park that will rent horses. I'll post more information about them soon.
Everyone needs to remember that the park rules allow beer and wine but no hard liquor. Also no glass beverage containers are allowed either.
I had Sprint service at the site, so all the other major carriers should work too.
There are multiple trails in the area. I plan on doing a clock-wise loop hike invloving the Overton Trail (2.1 miles) and the Go John Trail (4.8 miles) for a total trip length of 6.9 miles. You can do variations of longer or shorter jaunts depending upon your own tastes. I picked this small loop to get everyone back to camp early enough to cook, socialize, drink and EAT! Let's plan on starting to hike around 9:00 AM?
There are maps at the entrance, I suggest that you pick one up when you enter the park or you can download it HERE
We're going to need some firewood for both night. Any you could bring along would be great.
Thanks, more to come later.

Sorry SUZ. It wasn't supposed to sound like that. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. Great weekend everyone and I couldn't agree more that T & T are the greatest hosts! Explosive combination there (ha, ha.. I made a funny)
Speaking of funny, my ribs hurt for two days after Todd's "calf in the mud" story... thanks everyone for all the great grub, too! Absolutely the best bunch of people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and who allowed me to hang out with them!
IGO... you have a way with words... no, Tom, I don't think Major Hooli is tuned in...
Ya'll have great week... I know I will after that refreshing outing! _________________ Learning is a life long process, schooling is only one part, an education is what I will have when I leave this place. |

OK, it was an inadvertent comment about Suz and not Jaimi; I'm sure Jaimi's post was meant to be taken in the spirit of fun we all had this past weekend as was mine. No reason for anybody to get their pantry in a wad. Obviously Suz didn't and good for her! So forget about the "Sic him Dave" post........we'll all just jump on IGO and beat crap outta him next time we see him.....even tho' he's one for whom "I'm innocent" really applies for a change! _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

I've got to try my hand at video. That took me right back to the Boil Off. My jaws hurt from a hyper extended grin.
How do you post a video like that? I'd love to put a high res copy on my web site. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. The video isn't the highest quality to begin with since it was shot with my still-camera. I was surprised at how much loss there was when it was uploaded though. I'll probably try uploading it to Google videos tomorrow. I've uploaded full-resolution videos there before. It has to go through a multi-day process of acceptance before it can be viewed though. Might even have to use Google's video player, if I remember correctly, to watch it. If anyone has any other suggestions for a place to store the video online, I'd be happy to hear about it. Anyway... it was fun watching it and re-living last weekend a bit! |

There is a way to post/upload short video clips to the itunes website. It's called a podcast. Lots of instructors are doing it. I think they can be set up for free downloads and are playable on an ipod.
Not sure all of my facts are correct on that. |

I just uploaded the video to google videos and you can watch it without any additional software it appears. (seems like they've changed how they do business). Anyway, it's at the resolution that the camera took it (not that great since it was a still camera in video mode). Enjoy...
