IGO, this is more of a question for you. Is the Arrow Canyon Wilderness worth my time over the christmas holiday? After your posts on Valley of Fire, you got me poking around to see what else is in southern Nevada. This place looks cool! I've got 4 days to explore and I was trying to decide between the South Canyon/Marble Canyon area of the Colorado River or perhaps Death Valley. Then I stumbled on this and now I really can't decide. Sad
I'm leaning towards the Colorado River though, but I may change my mind. Any knowledge that you (or anyone else) have of the area would be greatly appreciated! Very Happy

I don't know Arrow Canyon. I do know that when you turn off 15 up 93 towards Great Basin that there are immeditely many razor sharp ridge lines jutting from the desert floor and all beg exploring. You get a sense just surveying them that if you went in you'd surely be the only human in there.

C'mon man! This is your backyard! Don't make me come up there and explore it for you! Wink

I lived there for 2 1/2 years, never heard of Arrow Canyon, although I never really did any serious hiking while I lived there.

Dang, I wish I was down there since I've not only wanted to visit Arrow Canyon, but climb to the highpoint of the Arrows. Here is a link
to Arrow Canyon by a Las Vegas local:
http://www.birdandhike.com/Wilderness/ArrowCyn/Arrow.htm

Another resource is the Summitpost page on the Arrow range:
http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/155269/arrow-canyon-range.html

My wish list for southern nevada:
Hayford Peak
Potosi Mtn
Muddy Peak
Virgin Peak
Moapa Peak and
Arrow Mtn range / canyon
One more resource:

Hope this helps

Dean

That looks a lot like Browns Peak to me. Would be a fun climb!

The last houses in Vegas are on the last road. Keep in mind that 2 miles out'a town there are millions of acres to explore in every direction. We live in paradise.

I feel the same way about Arizona. Razz

If there is anyone out there that has nothing to do (no family obligations) over the christmas holiday, and wants to hike/backpack for 3-4 days, hit me up. I'm looking for a partner, but I will go solo. Partner preferred.

I have not decided where I want to go. I'm open to suggestions. The more I look at this Wilderness area, the more awesome it seems. It is getting heavy consideration.
