I'm fairly new to hiking, however, I did plenty in the military. My friends are either married or not adventurous. I've lived here for three years and have only seen the hard tops of AZ. Anyone interested in showing me around let me know. Thanks.

Married people don't hike?? Confused Seriously, this group is a good one! Keep checking, check out the forums on this site, there'll be some hikes coming up close to Phx. now that it will be getting cooler. Also, go to REI or other backpacker store, get yourself a guidebook to the Superstitions. There are also some guidebooks (someone else fill him in, please) to some of the most accessible hikes around the city you can start out with. These areas may be sort of crowded, but will start getting you acquainted with the various hiking locales. Most people have a hike closest to their home they go to often for a workout, such as Camelback or Squaw (Piestewa) Peak, and save the more distant ones for when they have more time.

Welcome!

I'll ask! We HAVE to know!

Hey Vancenumbers! Do you do windows and clean house? How about cooking? Chuckle

Welcome to the site and do keep an eye out as there is always a hike going on and the best way to get involved is to show up at one of the GHOTM's and introduce your self! The next one coming up is...Kachina, camping in the beautiful Lockett Meadows! If you come to the GHOTM be prepared to eat!

We ought to start a movement towards prenuptual agreements for all hiking enthusiasts. The prospective spouse, if a non-hiker, agrees to allow X number of weekends per year, plus numerous hours for dayhiking.

On the other hand why would any of us marry a non-hiker? Is there anything more important than hiking? Oh, well, that. Yeah, ok when you're young, but loses its #1 importance later on in life. Very Happy

Moral of the story is: Never go on a date with a non-hiker. It could lead to marriage to a non-hiker. Very dangerous to one's sanity! Crazy

I've tried that method as well, doesn't work as well as it sound.

Vance, like they are saying, come out on one of the GHOTM's. They are always a good time.

I've got the books, the gear, the knowledge of where everything is at. I'm tired of going by myself. I'd travel the state each weekend if I had a group to hike with, or at least someone else. I clean my apartment rarely do I clean my windows. I run everyday as well but, thanks for the offer. Other than the group hikes does anyone get together on their own and go?

Sure - happens all the time (unless you're married - as Tim pointed out).

Your best bet is to pick a place you want to go, then post your plans here and see who wants to go with. Or you can just post and ask who is going somewhere any given weekend and somebody is bound to be going somewhere for a hike.

Once you've been to a GHOTM though, you'll know a lot more people and that process will be easier. Trust me - once you've gone to a GHOTM (or any of the social gatherings for that matter) you'll leave several pounds heavier and several friends richer.

also checkout www.friendshiking.com

or
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/takeahikeaz/

They both seem to have hikes more frequently.
