I just got an Osprey Aether 60 pack and love it. Have only used it once to Aravaipa and it worked great. You can check out the pack at http://www.ospreypacks.com/packs/7/Aether60/ |

The products director for Osprey is a friend of mine--I can get packs at a little over cost from him if I can ever catch up with him! I will check that one out so I have something to ask him about next time I talk to him. Thanks for the heads-up! |

The cost for my pack was cheap. The price for the pack was $160. I had a $100 dividend from REI and I had a 20% off coupon so it cost me $75 for the pack. What a deal. |

I looked at the Ula site--nice looking packs. Small co. and the guy is out of town (probably doing a thru hike) until Nov. or something, so you can't even get one right now! I am planning to do some more research on switching to ultralight (gradually). I found some interesting websites just by googling. Even with older gear my pack was lighter than my companions' packs on the Sierras 6-day hike earlier this month, but I still did start out with a shade over 40 lbs. I can carry that just fine, but hey, why not go a bit lighter? |

Elizabeth,
I went to "second generation" gear a few years ago, switched out from the first tent, bag, and pack and took several pounds off my back. It didn't cost that much, I suppose I could take some more out for an exponentially higher price, but right now it's good. Didn't spend all that much either. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |
