I would like to make another trip to Picacho Peak and/or Quartz peak.

Dates are not set yet, if you are interested, please reply here.

Picacho Peak is about 40 miles N of Tucson, The hunter trail is 2 miles ( 4 miles round trip ) and very steep ( 2000 ft elevation gain ). The last time we went as a group, it was great fun.

Quartz Peak is in the West valley ( Estrella mountian range ) and is a 5 mile round trip with a 2400 foot gain in elevation. This trail is considered remote and a 4X4 is recomended to access the trailhead.

I would like to do both of these before spring/summer arrives and it gets too hot....

Whadaya think?

I'm game for Quartz peak, schedule permitting. I have a two wheel drive Explorer that so far has taken me where I've asked it to.

Cakewalk, Are you sure the trail up Picacho Peak is only 2 miles? Sure seems longer than that to me! Shocked

I think I should thank Cindy, but not sure! After looking up the BLM site this morning, I started thinking about the Quartz Peak hike. Had this afternoon off, daughter was with Mrs. srlatty. Idea Let's just say, I think I made it about 1/2 way up with the time I had. Very Happy Was trying to get back before it was too late. Will post a partial trip log, but, this has made me want to do it that much more Exclamation

As far as Picacho is concerned, Been there done that, I wouldnt mind doin it again, but I prefer a new experience. Quartz Peak sounds like it would be right up my alley. The top sounds fun with the trail finding and rock scramblin and all. Smile Multi
