Anyone else interested in a GC rim to rim dayhike in early-mid Nov b/4 the North Rim is closed for the season to motor vehicles due to 1st major snowfall ? Mad

Current plan is to dayhike down N Kaibab and out SK or BA... My several previous rim-rim dayhikes have been in April/May & Oct so the cool weather will be a welcome.

Then spend the night at a rim lodge and repeat the above trails back to North Rim.

NK to SK distance is 21 miles
NK to BA is 24 miles

Check your date - I thought the canyon closed for hikers by late October.

The Canyon doesn't close, the North Rim does. Services at the North Rim usually close in mid-October. Road access to the North Rim from Jacob Lake remains open until it becomes necessary to close the road due to snow. It then remains closed until May, when the North Rim services open again. According to Grand Canyon National Park's website, the North Rim Lodge and services are closed after October 14th this year. Just as an FYI, I have been snowed on fairly heavily in mid October, on the South Rim.

That's actually what I meant. The N. Rim. - my bad.

let it snow...let it snow...let it snow...

A GC dayhike is fun in the snow.

Remember to bring the right gear.

also with record temps here in phx for July... I can't wait for the snow to come.

Hiking in the cold is the best since you can always put on an extra layer for warmth but the heat sucks since there's no magic bullet.

Parts of the North Rim are actually open all winter long.

I hear they even have a winterized camp site avail with water.

Just gotta be one of the very few creative ones that manage to get there. Very Happy
