I'm picking Ken up in Mesa around 1:00 and making a side trip to the North Mesa Ranger Station to pick up a permit for Bulldog Canyon; plan on doing some four wheeling there Sunday with Ken and, maybe, GTG.
Daddee, we're gonna be at the Group campground and I have no idea when dinner's gonna be. I'm shooting for 7:00, but from past experience, know it's gonna be later....likely much later! _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

That's not going to work for us, so scratch us from the friday cookout. I'll probably wait and come out saturday morning for the hike. Cristiana & Elijah will come out saturday afternoon. If the saturday cookout is going to be just as late we probably won't be able to hang for that one either. _________________ [/size] |

Being that Friday's a holiday, it looks like many people are able to make it to the campground early in the day. Are there any people who have to work that day or can't make it until later that evening? I honestly don't see why we can't set a time for eating. I don't understand why we may end up having to eat so late. I'd really like to be there Friday night and I would imagine other families would like to as well, but that can't happen if the cookout happens too late. Anybody who can't make it until later on Friday, please state what time you're planning on being at the cook-out. Then a time can be set to eat!! _________________ "There is a road from the eye to the heart that does not go through the intellect." - G.K. Chesterton |

This isn't just for us. It's also for the hikers who are getting up very early Saturday morning to do a strenuous hike and for any other families who want to be there too. We don't know how anybody else feels about the time and would like opinions regarding this if they disagree with it, but we would be fine with actually eating at 7:00. We would need to start preparing the food to eat earlier than 7:00 so that we could all start eating at 7:00. The reason is that it's gonna take Elijah & me at least an hour to get home and then I've gotta get him to bed. Elijah's a total terror the next day if he gets to bed too late the night before. Mike's planning on staying for the hike and wants to be able to get plenty of sleep that night.
Does it need to be earlier than 7:00PM for anybody? _________________ "There is a road from the eye to the heart that does not go through the intellect." - G.K. Chesterton |

Well, I'm not going to be there Friday night but I will speak for Saturday. I would rather eat while we still have some sunlight. According to the US Naval Observatory:
The following information is provided for Apache Junction, Pinal County, Arizona (longitude W111.6, latitude N33.4):
Saturday
12 November 2005 Mountain Standard Time
SUN
Begin civil twilight 6:29 a.m.
Sunrise 6:55 a.m.
Sun transit 12:10 p.m.
Sunset 5:25 p.m.
End civil twilight 5:52 p.m.
So for Saturday, why don't we plan the meal for about 5 or 5:30? _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

BTW, Hooli, I think the term Civil twilight means you have to behave yourself.
After 5:52 PM (or 2 Martinis) all bets are off! _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

Have doubts tha all the hikers will be done by 5:30. Think last two years, it was dark when they finished. Know for a fact it was dark when they finished two years ago 'cause I was one of those out looking for the last hikers with head lamps and flashlights. Also, think we need to give them time to unwind a little.
