The light is changing in a beautiful way. We needed to breathe some wilderness air and on our way through it, I caught a flash of movement in my periphery. We both froze. The camera was on my chest and thankfully set up for a grab shot from the work I had been doing the evening before. Normally I would have had it on a landscape setting and this shot would not have been possible with that.
There were three small, browsing deer. Two were this size and one still had some bambi spots. That one was much smaller. I got off a series but most were into the sun and in heavy brush to where they immediately moved. This shot was in the first two. I shot in the RAW mode and made my own tonal curves so more detail could be brought out in the fur but the background was not blown out. 1/160th second at f/5.6 and ISO 100.
There were some perfect little blooms that were thinking about opening but still had something to hide. Don't know what these are but would appreciate any info on them. One bush had several like this but all the rest were wide open.
Excitement is beginning to build. We are approaching the best part of the year. The summer rains have set a nice stage. High adventure awaits. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys

Fall is the best I think---then spring. But winter is good too, and summer brings its' own joy in the monsoons. So good here in Arizona--the incomparable southwest.
I spoke to an old friend of mine today who asked if I'll ever come back east. I told him " this is the land of my soul, never say never, but I doubt it." _________________ You can rest when you're dead |

Those flowers open up into a very normal shape and most were. The bushes were about five to six feet high. Some were smaller.
Just to add that deer shot was with a 40mm lens which is short normal, not telephoto at all. They walked right across our path about 25 feet out. They became aware that we were there but did not spook, just walked off a ways and continued to browze. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys

I don't understand the first part but thanks for the second, the variety of deer. I actually though of the Nighthiker when I saw these. You have so many close sightings. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys

Meant the flower had already been identified. You also have some great encounters, thank you for sharing. |
