Here we go.... I was on what I believe to be West Wing Mountians. This area is N83rd ave just north of pinacle peak road.
Was going after a geo-cache and stumbled onto an area near an old dirt road. there was garbage and assorted debris. I found this:

I believe its aluminium. Its not heavy enough to be lead. Its non-magnetic and does conduct electricity.
Now aluminum melts at over 1200 degrees F. There is no evidence of any recent fire. It was stick to the ground, meaning it happened on the site, there is grass and other plant life at the same site. There is more out there as well as what looks like the remains of some kind of machinery. ( very small pieces ).
probably not a car - the old road is very steep and slippery.
Any thoughts?
Whatever happened, I blame Bush! |

Is it one of those things that happen when lightning strikes sand and melts it?(I forget what they are called, but they happen on Humphery's.) Looks like a piece of something soldered. Weird! |

Maybe debris from when that APS substation burned last summer near there. It melted some heavy duty transformers. |

I agree with you that it's probably aluminum. You might be able to make a couple of bucks at the scrap metal recycling place on Rio Salado. I think they pay about 50 cents a pound for aluminum.
Thanks for removing some of the trash. |

I think it may be a spent fuel rod from one of Arizonaheat's vessels.

Looks like melted aluminum that ran on to the ground and cooled. Probably from fire as I doubt lightening could melt aluminum instantly causing it to run.
Polish it up with some steel wool and hang it on your wall as art! _________________

I'd be a bit leary of things like that, you never know what kind of hazmat is spread around the back county. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

You might be careful, I saw T2, and the hunter killer robot could go from something like that to one bad ... killer robot that is if you're the real cakewalk, he could also change into someone else if he wanted to, so how do we know it's really you? |

Aluminum melts around 1100 degrees and within the temp of typical house fires, vehicle fires and some campfires. It may be the location of a motor vehicle fire, trash fire or possible an aircraft crash site,
Lightning fused sand (and some high voltage power lines) create fulgerites (not sure on the spelling). |

I'd put it on ebay just for shoots and giggles. _________________ "I am just going outside and may be some time."- Explorer Oates' last words before crawling out of his tent in -40 C temps. Sacrificed himself so as not to hold back his 1912 South Pole expedition teamates. |

Hmmm...... maybe thats why my cat has recently lost all of her fur
Actually I doubt its lightning caused, there is more out there. It could have been a small plane crash. There are no houses or passable roads nearby. Its odd to me that the temp needed to do this is quite high, yet there is no evidence of any fire.
If I said I saw a UFO drop it, I could sell it for big bucks! |
