A 1-year-old Vermonter on Tuesday likely became the youngest person to have summited Humphreys Peak.
That morning, the tyke and his family took to the trails, but winds reaching more than 100 mph hampered their progress, and concerned fellow hikers called out the county's search and rescue unit.

The family reached the summit, but the wind started to pick up. Servis said that some hikers that day reported having to crawl the last 200 yards to the summit because of the winds blowing at 100 mph.
One of those hikers, noticing Dan and Billy, decided the family could potentially be in trouble and contacted authorities on his cell phone, Servis said. SAR sprang into action at about 5 p.m. |
Fortunately, everyone made it down safely. But 100 mph, wow! On the bright side, I'm guessing no one had problems with bugs at the summit.
