At 6pm this evening a large brushfire apx. 400 acres is now burning in the Goldfields just North of Apache Junction. |

Apache Trail (AZ 88) is now closed because of the fire. |

At dusk the ridgeline (as I can see it from my house) from Praying Hands halfway to Superstition Peak was engulfed in a cloud of smoke.

One of first large brush fires in my career was at the front of the Superstitions's. The slurry bombers were flying so low that dogs were chasing them. At the time the slurry bombers were B-17's, DC-4s, A-26's and a B-24 that had its H type tail replaced with a single tail. |
