Next week is our Spring Break! (bene of being a teacher)
We've got Tuesday to Thursday planned for a camping trip! Now, the only question is WHERE TO GO!!!!
Here are the qualifiers:
4 adults
2 dogs - so National Parks are out
want to hike, bike, even climb
looking to have a one basecamp
Thought I'd ask the collective if they have any suggestions _________________ -Colin

Sycamore Pass. http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=12&n=3865245&e=409157&s=25&size=l
Check out the small butte west of the end of the road, there's a really cool little alcove on it's west face. Plenty of backroads for riding, like a jeep road that loops around south of Cabin Tank. The Dogie Trail is a great hike! And there are other options nearby like Loy Canyon. _________________ [/size] |

Thanks Mike!
I probably should add that we want to car camp, and that my wife wants to get as much sun as possible...she wants a tan _________________ -Colin

Probably won't be warm enough to tan but this is Arizona and it may still be warm next week. Paradise Forks outside of Williams is nice, esp for climbing. Oak Flats outside of Superior/Globe has good climbing but will probably be crowed with the spring break. I'm sure you'll have so many suggestions you won't be able to decide. |

Find a good rock climbing spot (lots up near Prescott) and then the wife can lay out on top while you do the rock-spider thing. And, as you know, where there is rock for climbing, there are trails for hiking. Another good point is that most climbers are lazy and would rather drive right to the wall and camp there - so car camping is a likely probability near good climbing.
No specific suggestions though. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I've been there many times. Nice hikes, awesome climbs. Certainly plenty of sunshine for tanning. Interesting history too. I don't care too much for the desert but this is my favorite desert area. |

I have only done dayhikes and climbs and spent the night in Tucson. I will ask a few friends of mine who are big time climbers. The would probably know. |

Middle Verde Valley area, I am thinking on camping this weekend, West Clear Creek Campground and Dead Horse State Park (which offers a lot of bike trails), there is also another campground near Wet Beaver Creek. |

There's a really nice campground on the east side of Babo.
It's a really beautiful area, and if your wife doesn't climb she
would still enjoy the hike to Lion's ledge, and up to Itoi's cave.
The Forbes route ices up in winter, though. Check out the Babo

Well if it were me, I'd go to the south east part of the state. I think I like that the most - partily due to its history. I'd check out Tombstone, Bisbee, Nogales, and such places like that. It reminds me of the old west down there. It's great! _________________ "IRONMAN" cometh, hiketh, destroyeth |

There's a campground on the west side also. This is Tohono O'odhan Reservation so there is a $10 per night fee. |
