Went hiking today in Thunderbird park.....
Nearly didnt recognize the place.... Instead of dirt and rocks, the entire area was a rich green carpet. No flowers yet, but if we get the rain thats in the forcast for Monday - I think we will be in for a real treat. |

Everyplace I've been lately, it looks like a jungle (relatively speaking of course). A lot of flowers poping up too.
I'm hoping for the carpet of flowers on the supes like we had a few years ago in the next few weeks. |

According to the naturalist at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, don't expect a magnificent wild flower season, like the one a few years ago. In order for that to happen rain must come evenly spaced throughout the winter. He said amount really doesn't matter, even a couple on hundreths in Dec., then some in each successvie month will do. Even though we had a large amount of rain recently it was basically too late. There will be wildflowers, but the hillsides won't be covered like a few years ago.
The Desert Poppies, I have seen recently in the Supes are dwarfed and widely dispersed.
We can keep our fingers crossed though and hope nature proves him wrong, but he has lived at the foot of the Supes over 50 years so probably is right. |

It's been a real treat hiking Camelback mountain every week since its been really green on the mountain. It's kinda neat seeing the desart green. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

All the usual wild flowers are there, and when they are few and far between,
you appreciate each one much more. I used to think that after a dry year
it would take many years to build up the population, but it seems that the
seeds can stay dormant and wait for the next rainy winter. Wouldn't you
think all that sweat on Camelback would add up to more than a couple of
hundredths of an inch ? |
