Isn't it strange how life is just one long stream of conciousness. Hey - wait a minute....
Dang - and here I thought I was being all deep and stuff. All together now: "Thank you Mr. Master of the Obvious!"
Now I'll shut up. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Hold your horses Hooli!!! I'm busy trying to work out the kinks from the upgrade I did last night. You're a moderator, you can set up polls!! Set up one for each nomination, just like an election. Let everyone vote Yes or No for each one. But, no poll for you... you ain't gettin' out this one, Bubba! _________________ [/size] |

Umm ... I think we need MORE moderators for each catagory. Why stop at four? How about if we're ALL moderators?! |

I tend to agree with that sentiment - but not entirely. There should be more than a couple of moderators per forum (not more than 4 or 5 though) - but having everyone as a moderator would really cause problems. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Yeah, I was just kidding. I don't know anything about it - such as what moderators actually do - but I can't imagine the need for four on a single forum. Kinda seems like a popularity contest to me. |

More or less - you are correct. But the Moderators do have the power to alter posts and ban people if they become too much of a problem - so you can see the opportunity for abuse if there are too many of them. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

According to Joe, I held the record for most moderations on HAZ. He says it was 2, it might've been 3. I fixed a couple of links that were posted incorrectly. I've done similar things here. The most common is when someone quotes a post, but has BB Code turned off. As far as I know, Daddee, moderators don't have the ability to ban users. Moderators can modify posts and delete them. They can delete, lock, unlock or move topics. That's it, ASFAIK.
There were something like 6 or 7 moderators on HAZ. I don't think 4 is too many when you consider that they won't always all be online at the same time. They can sort of spread the work around.
I see your point about it being a popularity contest, but we did ask for nominations and volunteers. And then Hooli put up polls for folks to vote. If any of them ever seem to be abusive of their moderator powers, there's no reason that we can't have a vote to remove them. I don't really see that happening, though. I think we have a great group of people here. I think the point about everone moderating isn't a bad an idea, but not all at once. Otherwise, why have moderators at all? But, why not let the moderators serve for a period of time, then have new elections? Say 6 months or a year from now we redo it?
The whole point of selecting the moderators the way we did (and the logos) is that we don't want this site to be seen as "Todd & Mike's" site. We want everyone to feel they have ownership in it, and have a say in how things are done. _________________ [/size] |
