I'm too lazy to read through all the posts on the topic that we've had, and I don't remember this being addressed, so can someone please tell me if they help with back problems?
We all know that they help with knee/hip problems for some people, I'm curious to know if they help with back problems too.
Please say yes. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I would have to say yes because on uphill sections being able to push off the poles helps to keep you more upright and not as hunched over. But thats just my opinion. I use my hiking poles on all my big hikes but just doing Piestewa Peak the other day my back hurt w/o them. Not sure if that was directly why but I don't think they would have hurt. |

I've got an extra pair you can borrow for a while if ya want. Definitely check it out first. I think they will make a difference.
Let me know. |

I use them for every type of hike and I can tell you this: they help my knees more than anything else and they are great on the triceps. As far as the back I'm not sure, but if I'm not favoring my knees all the time the back has got to be better. _________________ ;o)> |

Daddee I would say yes... anything that is going to give you extra support and help hauling your load will help... to what extent I can not say but I am certain they would help. _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

That's kind of what I was figuring as well. My only concern is it using the poles might cause you to use your back and shoulder muscles more and put extra torque on your back muscles.
I think Desertgirl and Tom are right. I need to try it and see.
Maybe I'll bum those poles off of you at the shootout Tom. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I happen to have a couple extra pairs of ski poles. If anyone is interested in taking them off my hands they would make for a great trial run to see if you even like trekking poles. _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

Popular outdoor outfitters sells good, cheap (price) trekking poles. My wife and I have used them since 2001 and love em! |
