Did this in & out 10 mile roundtrip. It was awersome....The closer you get to Canyon Lake along 1st Water Creek the views are spectacular! Wish I had a way of posting some photos. This is a hike along the wash & at 4.5 miles in there is a very exposed scrambling aling a narrows wall to avoid wading through chest high (for 6'+ guy) water. Some water spots along the creek ( not much at all) & a smattering of wildflowers-- to little.
Hackberry spring was running. Willpost write up soon _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

I had Hackberry Spring farther south in my mind, I saw the trails probably going to it, just didn't think it was that far north. Got the book out tonight and re-read it. I just did the Garden Valley Loop today, things look terribly dry. Did see some small stagnant pools along First Water Creek, north of the main trail to Garden Valley. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Between milepost 207 and 208 along Arizona 88 (The Apache Trail) is a trail that will take down to First Water Creek. This unmarked trail is also shown on Tonto National Forest Superstition Wilderness Map. The trial along First Water Water Creek is not marked. |
