Is anyone planning on watching the Perseid Meteor Shower this week? Does anyone have any good suggestions for where to watch...places that aren't too far out of town ideally? Ideally not too much hiking in the middle of the night would be good as well. |

I'm thinking of going somewhere along the bush highway, there's all kinds of pullouts and usually not that many people. That or drive out along the beeline and take one of the roads out around the four peaks/sycamore creek area (its about 20-30 minutes past the casino). _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

I'm heading out on Peralta Road into the Supes... lots of pull-outs and always dark. Great viewing.
I've also heard of people heading out towards First Water trailhead. If you feel like hiking a little, Garden Valley is always nice. _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

I don't know about anyone else, but it was so cloudy we didn't even go out. I got up and went outside for about a half an hour and watched the cloud movement. I never even saw a regular star, let alone a shooting one. So we just went back to bed. I was so disappointed
Sorry Wandering... I bet it was a good show somewhere above the clouds!! _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

We actually had a pretty good show from Luke AFB. Working nights on the flightline we were just BS'ing and we kept noticing all the shooting stars. Then I remembered about the meteor shower. I also noticed a lot of shooting starts while at Mt. Whitney. I though they were just for good luck though. |

Due to the cloud cover on Thursday before sunrise, we decided to go out early Friday morning instead.

Had javelina milling about in my front yard around 2am, went out to look at 330am and it was cloudy. One of the planets was shining and it looked like a giant porch light on Montana Mtn. |
