A little get-together to exercise our trigger fingers and try out a few different flavors of hardware.

We will be meeting at Shooter's World on 28th ave. one block South of Indian School Rd.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&address=3828+North+28th+Ave&city=Phoenix&state=AZ&zipcode=85017&homesubmit.x=37&homesubmit.y=14

The time to meet is 12:00pm on Saturday the 31st of July.

There will be plenty of handguns to try, so rental shouldn't have to enter the equation. I believe Hooli mentioned it was $12/hr for lane rental. We'll see how that pans out.
Obviously we won't all be shooting at once. Hooli has gratiously donated 6 one hour coupons to the mix.

Please respond to this as we are looking for a preliminary head count.

So far:

Me
Hooli
GTG
Randy
Matt Gilbert
Davis2001R6
Daddee
Kristyn?
jmzblond?
azhiker96 and Deanda

If you have any questions, 'shoot' me a PM.

Clean after every shoot; I spent at least half an hour cleaning the .22 and the .40 S&W when I got home yesterday.

Yep, never store a dirty weapon. Rust will ensue before you know it.

The Taurus is a good weapon if you stick with the standard .45 caliber. They were licenced to use the old Colt 1911 .45 pattern (the old military sidearm before the 9mm Baretta) many years ago. They still make a reliable and inexpensive weapon for limited use.

The best way to purchase a gun for the first time it to grab an old hand like Tom, Hooli, Randy or myself, and trapse over to a Crossroads of the West gun show. You can get a gently used handgun for significantly less than new. Plus you can get good deal on all the paraphanelia (case, cleaning equipment, ammo, etc.). The shows happen quarterly so you don't have to wait long for one.

But you should be warned - they are interesting places to be sure. If you know what you want and go in focused on it, you'll be in and out in under an hour. However, if you just want to look around (or people watch) it will keep you entertained for hours.

I used to go there and run a table or two with a buddy of mine and we had endless hours of entertainment just watching people. A truly educational experience.

Thanks for the advice Jared. I think I want a 357 revolver.
Does anyone happen to know when the next gun show is?

Should be one comming up in October.

If there is one sooner, just wait. They are held at the State Fairgrounds and it is just miserable during summer. The air conditioner cannot keep up with the heat and the press of bodies as well. Go in the fall/winter/spring events and you're much better off.

Let me know if you want to go, I need to go and pick up a few things for myself.

Actually the Crossroads Gunshow will be here Sept 11 & 12 at the Arizona State Fair Grounds. I need to look for some good deals myself too. Mind if I tag along?

Yeah i just saw some info on it. I think I may check it out if i don't have anything going on. Probably won't be buying anything then but maybe come October. I'm trying to get in touch w/ a friend of mine who I was stationed in Korea with. He owns a gun store in NM and I know he would hook me up with something around cost.

I'd be up for a gun show. Count me in. I haven't been to one of them in years.

Tim, I may be looking to sell that nickel Colt Trooper .357 I have. Did you get a chance to shoot it Sat? I don't recall. I know Matt shot a few rounds.

Tom, did you have a 9mm (other than the one you bought from hooli)? I remember firing at least three, but you had so porridge many guns it's hard to keep track...

No. I'm sure you shot that Colt .357 revolver. Both .38 and .357 mag rounds. You may be thinking of the .45 auto.
The only 9 I have right now is the Glock.

I'm not sure if I shot that Tom. For my 1st time shooting the different guns are becoming a blur. Do you think you can put a picture up of it, or maybe a link to one? I probably won't be doing anything till October at the earliest though.

I can throw a pic of it up, or e-mail it. I also have a police issue gun belt, holster, speed-loaders, and ammo pouch to go along with it.

I need to clean it first. Haven't got to that one just yet. I'm getting there though. That's what I get for bringing out all the hardware at once.

If there's a gun show in September the next one won't be till probably November or December. Like I said, they're happen on roughly a quarterly basis.

Your best bet is to go with groups of 2 or 3 at a time. Any more and it just gets too hard to keep track of everyone. Tom will testify - there are a LOT of people at these things. It can get hard to move up and down the aisles if you are trying to go with a larger group of people.

But having two different groups of 2 or 3 people would be interesting - you could meet up and compare notes and cover more area more quickly.

Just a thought.
