More information to come, but I just wanted to get this out here before Tom started busting on me.
July's Group hike of the month will be Humphrey's peak. My initial thinking is to get up there Friday evening and hit the trail early Saturday morning. Maybe meet at the trailhead at 8am?
The trail is well used and easy to follow. To the peak it's about 4.5 miles and 3300 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts off in a heavily wooded ponderosa pine forest but slowly climbs out of the trees. The saddle, about 3 miles in, makes a good lunch/break spot and for some people this will also be a good turn around spot. From the saddle to the peak can be pretty grueling if you are not from Flagstaff and there are 3 or 4 false peaks that will disppoint you on the way, but on a clear day the peak is well worth the effort.

I'm planning on taking the motorhome up early Friday July 9. Will probably camp at the same site we used last year.
Directions: take highway 180 out of Flagstaff as if you were driving to the Canyon. Three miles PAST the road into Snowbowl, on the right side of 180, is FR 151. It's a dirt road, but well graded and does not require high clearance. If I can get the campsite we used last year, it's three miles in on FR 151 and 1/4 mile before Hart Prairie. There are plenty of trees for hanging hammocks.
Plan on pot luck Saturday evening at the campsite.

soooooooooooooo I'm out in the garage packing the car for this trip (a little excited to break away so I'm preparing for an early departure) and my sweet puppy jumped in the car and I can't get him out!
It's hotter than heck in the garage....what is he thinking?
I've tried doggy treats, long distance phone calls, the neighbor's kitty cats, bunnies and construction workers.....NO GO. I might have to leave tonight. |
S, you should've had H call me! Is he checking his Email? I'll contact Harley, so hang loose.
Can I bum a ride with you and H on Sunday? It's a long hike back to Mesa, but if I have to hitch-hike, I'll get there eventually. Maybe I'll do it on my bike (Lance A. has had the yellow about 62 times now), and I know I can do a double century, etc.
But being run over by funky truck drivers (on drugs), is not a good thing...
Jim. |

Anybody see the weather up there? I looked on CNN and it shows thunderstorms, I am curious as to what percent chance that is.... _________________ Formerly known as snow22_5150. |

Well I am going to have to fold on this one. I won't go into details but let's just say that it is great being a woman!
To all, please let me know if any of you plan on going up again. I am so disappointed, but hey there will be other times. I will be thinking of you all. _________________ Formerly known as snow22_5150. |

I am not going to make it. I will have all four grandchildren tomorrow. I will be thinking of you--take care. FYI it is chilly, cloudy and breezy today. _________________ Shikekeh hozhoogo naasha.

Anyone going up early Sat?

Cindy I'm going to be heading up on Saturday morning probably around 5:00 AM and returning on Sunday morning after the camp-out. I have room for 1 or 2 if you need a ride.
