I have been doing Camelback mountain once a week to get in shape. When I do it I start at the main trailhead and hike over the mountain to the Cholla trailhead then hike back. Since the mountains are ratherly small around here I have to do them twice to get the workout I need. I moved to Phoenix from flagstaff and I am used to doing Mt. Elden which is 3 miles to the top. I find that doing Camelback twice is simaler the my former experiences and make for one really good workout. |

Oh god, I hated the Camel back Mtn. hike so much. It could have been that was my first hike in about 3 months though. I was definitly out of shape. Now that I'm back in shape, I think I'm going to have to try it again. Hopefully it won't be a hike from hell like the last hike up that mtn. was. _________________ "IRONMAN" cometh, hiketh, destroyeth |

I ddnt make it to the top on my first attempt, because like a moron, I didnt start until almost 8:30am during mid summer my first year here.
I was about 750 degrees and my heart was beating funny, so I decided to head back down. On a later attempt I realized I was only about 200 yards from the top. O well live and learn.
I like the cholla trail as well, its not as steep and much more scenic. |

I do both trails when I do it, I start on the main one then to the cholla trail then go back over. The cholla is deffanatly the better side. There is not as many people on that side which makes it better as well. I think its a funner side anyway, at least once you start heading up the ridge. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

Definitly go with the cholla trail, less people and easier I think. |
