Self Heating MRE's

Anyone have field experience with self heating MRE's such as heatermeals?

Curious about taste+weight & will they heat at 10,000ft/30F?

some of these self heaters also advertise them as hand warmers, those be really hot hands!

I haven't seen those before but I did use traditional military MRE's while I was in Korea. During our excersizes we would eat 3 a day for a week. As far as taste they were not really that bad. Some were even pretty good. I think they would be a great for a day or two but not for a week. I never used them at any altitude but they work below freezing over there.

Had all my three kids in a military Hospital, by the time I had my 3rd, due to budget cutbacks they served us in a military Hospital in Germany MRE's that looked like they had been leftover from WWII Shocked

somehow I survived.

Sometimes I'll take one for an overnighter if I don't want stove weight and a small pack. They're ok although the chicken is kindof a mystery meat as far as texture- but the taste ain't bad. And yes- it gets really hot!!!

Did not care for the Heater Meals, I prefer the MRE's. Miss the scrambled eggs and ham which they do not offer any more. The MRE heaters work to about 90 degrees air temp after that you are better off using a stove or eating cold.
